Thank you very much for your reply. Mama and babies are in an insulated hen house now. I actually built it for my dogs many years ago, but the ones that used it pass on last year.

No drafts. Well built (if I don't say so myself) Clean, Nice and cozy. I was surprised that she didn't actually make her nest in there to begin with. Anyway, on the off chance that more eggs could hatch, I moved the remaining eggs from the original nest, and placed them next to her around 6pm. She cooed, and quickly started to roll them underneath her. She had literally buried the eggs in the other nest. Had them covered in about 2-3" of nesting stuff. Of course, I forgot my gloves on the front porch.

I need to hang a pair in the coop area.

It certainly wasn't in my plans to have babies this year, but here the little buggers are!

She was off the nest for about 5 hours today before I moved the eggs in the house with her. How will I know if she's done with the eggs? Do they "know" whether or not they are fertile or worse, dead? How long should I wait before "giving up" on the eggs?

Anyone have suggestions?

Blessings!

Tracy

Broodies talk to them and know when there is something wrong. She knows what to do and when to give up. There is a thread with lots of info and people to help. I have never had a broody so I have only read the thread to learn since I have marans and they go broody A LOT!

Raven,if none have hatched by morning I would take them away from her, Yes they can usually tell if they are bad. I have even had then remove them from the nest before hatching time. They have talents we will never know or understand!

Congrats on new babies! They grow up so fast!

Cute Bun! All of our rabbits are dwarf..yours is a Netherland Dwarf.I have 3 fully pedigreed jr doe for sale..brood only as they are big for the breed but they work better for brood doe that size..less problems.I also have a non pedigree Sr buck for sale.We are selling out of nearly all the ND's to make room for the hotot's but we have a Grand Champion older pair I'm keeping.
Oh I have a lead on your rabbits at the convention but $50 a bun is as good as it gets

I'm back from camping and one proud Mom..Megan has never rock climbed and said she would climb the rock tower to the top...this thing is TALL...She did it..while this picture was processing she touched the top
