Here is the trio of Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.

We had a good time but spent more time over in the rabbit building. The chickens were nice but when your at the National show they should be.I'm thinking though it's a bad time for such a big show...it's molting time for so many chickens right now I'm sure I'm not the only one that had to keep some home that should have been there. Of coarse I enjoyed the Wyandotte area..even Jerry is thinking he may have sold me the wrong rooster though but he is missing all of his neck feathers as well so he was scratched..as nice as the others there in BL but still not where the other colors yet..that's why they are still a project.

Countrypunk-nice but way too orange...a big no no in BLRW they are also all splash in color so you can never get blue laced from them only 100% splash, tail is pinched on the hen looking at the camera..not trying to pick them apart but if your serious about them they have all the common issues hatchery quality have that really need to be worked on breeding out. With that trio though it won't be possible. If your serious about the BLRW let me know I have a boy looking for a flock that is real nice..nice enough to stay here as the back up rooster to my main guy.

Carol-congrats

you don't tell the hubby about the eggs until they hatch..shipped eggs seldom have super hatch rates so he won't think your as crazy if you hatch a few..now tell him you bought a bunch and he will be right with rest of our dh's that we are insane

While I was gone my broody hens have been busy....chirping chicks hiding everywhere

They are from a hatchery I believe.
So if I bred them I would just get splashed wyandottes?
She did say something about splash. I saw something online about splash blrw.
They are still young. Only one is laying, the other pullet isnt yet. She still has some filling out to do.

yes you can only get splash and if you cross them together it will even be lighter than they are..splash to splash makes very light. The orange is a huge problem.Hatcheries have used gold laced to make the red and you will always have the orange issue which is not even close to the correct color. The red your striving for is the red in my aviator any lighter than that is too light. They will continue to fill out but Hatcheries have also put Rocks in the Wyandotte's and that is where the tails are coming from..they should never have a Rock tail but a very open tail which is hard even among the breeder Wyandotte's that is why we(BLRW breeders) are still having a hard time getting correct lacing and type on the same bird...yours also need work in lacing but anytime your working with Hatchery stock that is what they have and you need to make it better.
Now,I like the fact the hens have color and are not mostly splash, so I would work with the hens and sell the rooster and replace him with a good colored well bodied rooster then keep the best pullets

This season's babies have finally fluffed out. They have looked mangy forever. Thankfully the feathers came in before this cold front!
What do y'all think? They hatched out back in August.
