The Middle Tennessee Thread

Thanks Jes! This was a huge win for me and the Showgirls.

I just came from checking the traps and nothing. Dang it. I know e is out there I saw him at 2 am when I was pulling in from Indy. I think my German Shepard may have tripped the trap when we did our last check last night. I will try again tonight.

So who in Middle TN got the white Silkie pair from Jack? Holly was that you?

I figure you know better than any of us what to look for.

These guys are still really little. I will let them grow until next spring and then start making cuts. A couple of them are showing nice color at this point. They have at least one more molt, so we shall see. They are just so stinkin' cute at this little fuzzball state.

Gold Griffin- the possums were dispatched with a 16 gauge shotgun. Two of them I found crawling around on top of the runs and in the coops. I finally got a trap. This last one was trapped and shot. I am so ready for the possum population to leave my chicken coops alone!

That done..it was the Silkies there I liked better than about anything else...I was especially impressed with the Buff's being so even in color.A wee bit more boring than I want here since I like the off colors and strange Silkies but I know how hard it is to get those that even..nice. I do give my fluff balls a hard time

Don't get me started on the colored Silkies

Citygirl, so you have a 16 gauge. How is its kick? Husband doesn't understand why I don't want to touch his 12 gauge. I'd rather not be in an excitment situation and end up with bad bruises or worse.

I need to go do lots of practice at a range.

Those colored Silkies weren't being judged, were they? I keep thinking my splash brothers would look nice in a manly lavender. They look like mud puppies right now, but they are loving life with their RSL and Leghorn girls out in a tractor on the grass.

No they were not being judged but it made them look like a novelty toy for some spoiled kid to beg for the pink chicken clueless about what a chicken needs then tossed out with the trash when the pink goes away.

I am just asking all of you who pray to say a small prayer for a friend the good Lord will know who it is for.

Ok back to the conversation.

I did see the dyed silkies and am VERY thankful they were not also shown in the AOV category. Cleaning up all my new birds today, and making room for whites. uuuuggg not something I wanted to do going into winter but.................................

Hope everyone has a great day and week.

Well it appears we have gotten some results from our game cameras. Jose went home early today to find our computer and recording system making an alarm noise. He went running out back and founds some pens open. We have contacted the police and they are meeting my Dad and Jose to take a police report.

Two of our Sebastopols were stolen and it is on 'film'!!!!!

I love these cameras. After having a couple of very freaky Craigslist people at the house, we invested. Really was a great deal as I got them at a yard sale. Jose being the electrical genius that he is, has them hooked up to record and have an alarm sound in the house. I am pretty sure I recognize them but will have to go back thru my contacts to see if I can attach a name.

Obviously they aren't aware of the value of silkies or I suspect they would have disappeared too. I will put new/better locks on them anyway. At least some of my better ones are still in the house and/or in the barn brooder. I guess no more outside time in the runs unless we are home. Good thing they can't see worth a darn with all the fluff otherwise they might notice lack of grass in the barn.

We live pretty close to my parent's so Jose thinks we should put up an external alarm speaker and with some good volume, Mom and Dad should hear it. We live at the end of a dead end road but you have to pass all my family's farms to get to ours. Dad says he will put a gate that once the alarm sounds he can just shut and then call the police.

While typing this, Dad called and Gran (who sits and looks out of her windows all day) has a description of the truck. Go Gran! Maybe this will be a quick thing and I can get them back tonight.

Hopefully we will have some news before I get home. We have lost 4 family members in the last week and half, this is the last thing I need. I have to go to visitation tonight and then funeral again tomorrow with luncheon (expecting over 100) to follow at Mom's.

Ya'll pray for me before I kill something or someone.

I'm so sorry - but I'm glad you had the cameras going. My husband and I talked with a person who raises rare chickens recently, and he was telling us about how he has to be so careful because people try to steal rare birds. I had no idea! I want to get a trail camera - not because I have any valuable chickens but because I want to see what they do when I'm not around them! :-)

I'm sorry, too, for your family's loss. That's just terrible.
