Well, I am succumbing. I am firing up the bator again Thursday. I'll haul it out of the attic tomorrow and clean it up and let it start perking along. I figure if I run a "Test" hatch starting this week they will be out and the bator ready for round two by our meet up. Holly, perhaps I can get eggs then. We'll figure out something fun to toss in there.

THis hatch will be random EE mutts from my flock. About the only thing laying right now are the barred rocks. The eggs will all be barred rock x ameraucana. Some are from the blue AM daddy and some from the black AM daddy. Should be an interesting hatch. I think they will all be sex linked EEs.

Is everyone enjoying this fabulous weather? I kept thinking that the sun and warmth would encourage the girls to start laying, but nope. The freeloaders aren't laying. I got three eggs tonight from the 30 some odd hens out there. Sigh.

So are we all still good to meet back up on the 12th of March? Where do you want to meet?

Morning all! I'm glad it's warmer this week . . . though it's not quite as nice as they predicted (according to my chickens, anyway, who do not enjoy being blown around by the wind. Remember? Lotto balls? Banties? They are not amused.).

I started a thread re. the Spring Fling bantam double show down in Dalton, GA on March 12 - - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5695752#p5695752 . Brown Egg Blue Egg finally has the show listed, http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Shows.html , and I have also e-mailed Chris (NGaMountainChicken) for more info. He is in that club and helps set up for the shows. Remember, the November show had around 1400 entries. Not sure what a double show will be like!

There are a lot of really good, professional bantam breeders in Georgia, and they have more shows than we do up here in Tennessee. It's kind of a pain to make a long drive just for a show, though. . . and remember you LOSE an hour going down to Dalton. As it happens, my niece is in a play down in Winchester, TN on that Friday night . . . so it may be that I can go down there and see her and stay with my brother. I would be almost 2/3 of the way to Dalton. A family visit and chickens, too - - the best of both worlds!

We'll see how it goes.

The one bummer is that it looks like I will miss the March Mid-TN crazy chicken get together. I will try to catch the April one! CityGirl, let me know if I can pitch in and help organize for April, eh!

Since I have not taken any new pics in the last few days, I'll post an old one for all you hatch-a-holics. This is a shot of three frizzle-sizzle chicks I hatched back in 2009. These were out of Dipsy-Doodle-Doo's eggs out of North Carolina. What sweet little fuzzies they were!

Thanks Jen! Looks like I may be missing the meet up then as well..Seems I have a few Bantam Cochin's needing to be in Dalton that day as well.Gosh I hope they end the hunger strike soon or they won't be in good enough fluff to go

Holly have you tried to tempt them with some boiled egg or maybe some greens. I take greens(anything green, lettuce, grass, etc) and chop it to tiny bite size with the sisors and they usually like that. It seems the smaller the better,I gues they don't like to chew!lol

Jen I have lots for sale
lol.png
Lots of mottled bantam cochin's,EE,OE and more layers but the one's I would be taking to Dalton are the new birds...not for sale

a few show placings-or wins

would be nice.
They are just nibbling at treats and a little food the stinkers...the boys sure can crow though nothing much small about them.

Talked to my neighbor today and told him we were getting a few chickens for the backyard. He's a older man and I wasn't sure how he'd take the news but he loved it! He has a huge garden and mentioned buying chicken "dirt" and I told him to look no further. More than happy to share the gold!
