Oopsie..I have empty chicken pens.I'm thinking about chicks just really hoping common sense or my dh keps it in check.I can't have lots of chicks and be gone all over to shows...but chicks

Country..the bew will be weaned around valentines day but it looks like only 1 doe in dm.I have another bew doe bred now and 2 more non bew carriers all due before then.I have a nearly all white ball of fluff doe 3 months but brown eyes.I'm pretty much only keeping my 2 foster moms.they would take in a puppy if I gave them one.

All I have left for sale in chicken land is a few Mille Fleur Cochins Roos but will do a pair or two

I use golf balls. sometimes, in the little coops, a new hen will lay in the floor, but she catches the drift the next time.
Ive only had it happen with two hens, my leghorn kept laying in the floor, but it was because I just had a crate for a nesting box, and it would flip if a hen would try to lay in it.. The other time idk..Maybe she couldnt hold it in? :p

Lori... I almost forgot.... your other girl is laying for me. I got the cutest little blue egg today!

Now I need to get them to lay in the nest box and not the litter.... yuck.... TIPS anybody? I have an egg in there.... maybe it needs to be blue.... and not white.

Holly, I will keep that in mind if I cant find a pointed doe, or a doe closer.

Good morning all! I'd posted in this thread a couple of times last spring, but you all are too active for me to keep up with posting. I'm in Rutherford county (don't remember who or how many others live around here). We've got 11 laying hens - 7 RIR's, 3 Australorps, and one Welsummer. I've also got 11 Ameraucana chicks and 4 Welsummer chicks that I just moved outside yesterday.

On top of that, one of my Australorps has gone broody. :) We don't have a roo - I do have a Welsummer roo chick though! - and I wonder if anyone knows of a local source for fertile eggs? I'd love to give mama something to be sitting on, and our kids would get the biggest thrill out of hatching a few chicks. I'm not picky about breed at all - and anyone point me in the right direction? She's been on the next for about 4 days now....

There are folks on this thread who have hatching eggs. Just give everyone time to read your post.

Welcome back, by the way. I had a jersey giant go broody last summer, and I wish I'd given her some eggs to sit on. I'm hoping I'll get another broody soon. Good luck!

Where are you in Rutherford? If you don't mind EEs I can probably come up with some this week. My girls are laying again.

Did everybody weather the storms okay last night? I finally turned the weather radio off at 2am and decided I would rather die in my sleep than be woken up every 20 minutes by the stupid alarm. Gonna be a long sleepy day!

I'm in Murfreesboro close to 840. My husband works near the Nashville airport though. I'm not picky at all about what kind of chickens - we're all about the yummy eggs and pets for the kids. :) And they are pets - they often get little pedicures (they like red polish) and I know I saw one with some glitter dust and a sparkle beak at one point last summer.

If Anne can't help you I do have them too. I have Leghorn, EE and RIR, RIR x NH, all the rest are getting hatched right now.

I have an auction for extra eggs and I got a BID

Donna- can't wait for when you the blacks together. Let me know whenever you do and I will start the happy dance.

Anne- I ended up with one really light partridge, one white, and two buffs but one is a little on the weak side.

Lori did you ever do any good on your self blues..... we hatched several the last few months and thought about you.... we are trying to work on blacks now but had to take the splash hen out we was hatching alot of true blues instead of blacks lol

I work in downtown Nashville near the football stadium. That's just around the corner from your husband. Give me a couple of days and I can get a pile of them for you. How many are you looking for? 6-12?
