The Middle Tennessee Thread

Well I'm glad to see that everyone escaped any major damage! We had wind and lots of rain but that was it.
I took 60 eggs over to the incubator guy this afternoon. And I had two mor hens acting brooch tonight so that's a good thing!

Thanks Troyer!

We ordered RIR, white leghorns, sumatras and golden sebrights!

Can't wait to get them, lol.

I haven't had chickens in a few years, its exciting getting them, isn't it!

CluckyJay - it's exciting and a bit overwhelming. I grew up on AirForce bases so never was around chickens. These 6 are my first ever. Next week I have 6 Australorp chicks coming in. Super excited!

Looks like I will be forced to skip the Dalton show

I have to leave the following morning for Savannah and I can't go from Dalton straight down because it's a Girl Scout trip and my chickens may not be allowed in one of those posh expensive motels there anyway. The trip got moved up 3 months so I will have some hatching and going to lockdown while I'm gone..

It was nice yesterday. I went to the Elkton sale yesterday. It was a good one. Lots of stuff I wanted but not enough money!

I did get a new flock of EE bantams. They are about a third smaller than the ones I have now. There is a good color range too! Mine were already small but these will really bring the size down.
I got back and was moving things around and decided to give a doe rabbit a box because I thought she may have been bred when I bought her and wasn't for sure. Three hours later she had a litter of seven! That was close!

Holly are the nn's bantam or large fowl? I love the turken breed. Very hardy despite the bare skin.

Jenski next sat is the really big Amish sale just past Elkton. You and hubby should take a road trip. It is someting to see. I'm sure even hubby will find an auction area he likes! There will be a big top tent filled with fowl plus that many more on the outside of the tent!Just about anything you can imagine.
There will also be auctions going on for building supplys, farm equip.,household goods, antiques, livestock, nursery stock, tack, buggys!,and lots of homemade Amish foods to buy and to eat!Its like going to an auction fair only no rides, well I guess you could ride the machinery or livestock!lol

Yes, overwhelming! My least favorite part of chicks is when they start to stink and want to leave the brooding box. I remember having them when I was younger; they always tried to fly out of the box. God forbid they cleared it--poop everywhere!

Of course, a little poo is worth good, organic eggs and meat. We got lucky, a friend of my husband's cousin gave us two big nice pens to go along with our chicken coop/run. At least being in Tennessee means the young birds can go outdoors pretty soon. LOL

Clucky you made quite a varied selection! Sounds like you took lot of time looking and reading about breeds. That's a good thing. I am sure they will bring you lots of fun. Where did you order from?

21 chicks left today...still a few hundred to go
