That would be great! I would trade chicks for the boxes! I was thinking I might could use 1 to take chicks to the trade day if not too heavy..... maybe the totes would be better. I am going to make another hatcher out of one.

I am in no rush if you want to wait till you get your chicks. Don't make a special trip. If you need me to I can meet you, but it will be later in the week. We have a truck.

I don't have any extra roos now either

Now I can use all those pens for new chicks.... filled 4 of them up today when I moved everyone around. Thanks for the number though.

I have a broody Marans I think I will move her and pop some eggs from the bator that are about 1/2 done under her and see if she sticks it out. I may have another broody, splash rock... not sure I want to deal with 2 at the same time.... Could I put them in the same pen with 2 nest boxes? Would they get along ok?

You can pick up the chicks whenever it works for you and I am in no rush so what ever works for you. I will finish tagging them all tomorrow and I may have all your BR chicks. The NH will be the next hatch. I can probably pic out a Marans roo too, did you want a black or blue.... I think you said blue copper.

I've never had RIRs before, so I don't really know. Around here I make an educated guess based on comb at first. Those single comb boys start popping up a big comb fairly quickly. Even with the pea comb chicks I'm about 80% accurate by looking at comb width. You can almost tell even at birth. Of course, it helps to have males and females to compare. :)

The boys get thicker legs. Their feathers start growing in pointier too. Behaviour can also be more assertive, but you do occasionally get a really assertive girl. Sometime they will start crowing really young.

Hopefully someone who raises RIRs will chime in and help. I can make nice generalizations, but I don't really know about that breed.

I have a RIR roo about 6 weeks old. I was able to pick him out at 3 weeks. That comb popped out fast. It did help that I have another RIR that didn't have the comb...

I am thinking that out of the 8 that I got he is the only roo... but I am not sure with the Ameraucana chicks... one looks a lot like a hawk.....LOL

It is this Saturday at the Co-op that is on Middle TN Blvd. It starts around 8am and goes until you are tired of being there. Last time the traffic fell off by 11:30am or so. There were chicks and grown chickens, some ducks and turkeys, goats, and some sheep last time. It was mostly poultry last time. You never know about this time.
