That is the only thing for sure right now. Several of us would probably want to do both

Maybe we could do one in March and the other in April or May? That way those of us that could make both can spread them out a little and hopefully have more options for sell and trade. You know we will all be hatching like crazy about then.

My world is really screwy until school lets out. I will have pretty limited options until May. Those dates I posted are pretty much my only free weekends between now and May. Stinks, doesn't it?
hmm.png

I'll start a poll for the Murfreesboro dates if someone wants to start a poll for the Cookeville dates.

edited to add- the poll for the Murfreesboro meet up

Hey, oldchickenlady, we're practically neighbors. I'm 5 minutes from Leipers.

yep, thinking about what kind of eggs I want to get. I told the Dh tonight my next hatch was scheduled for March.

Hey Bikechick! Cool to know another chicken freak is so close! I live off of Pinewood Road/TN 46. What neck of the woods do you live in? I haven't started the 'hatching on my own' thing yet...scared to get started doing that! I did intend to let any hens that I have hatch out some if they went broody, but now that I don't have a rooster I will have to can that idea. I do have 2 big styrofoam boxes that I got from work (intended to use moving the food in my mom's freezer, but didn't need). I had sort of been mulling the idea of making my own incubator with one of them. I have another if anyone wants one to make a homemade bator for themselves. I even looked on here for instructions, but I am still trying to resist it! Someone help me!
lol.png
Anyway, when I get time I will check my work schedule and see when I am off and which meeting I could possibly make. Yall have a good week!

Carters Creek Pike
I have a foam bator w/ tuner & fan. I made a hatcher, but didn't get a chance to use it for this last hatch because of thermostat probs. I'll have it stabilized by March. I got the idea on BYC. I would recommend having turners, for I can not imgagine turning eggs by hand.

If you need any help w/ incubating PM me and we'll exchange personal contact info.

a bit However,it's so peaceful out there-no traffic
Lets plan to do a Cookeville event for those on "this" side of the World in addition to the Southern event.I was with another BYC'r today that knows a few that would do Cookeville that M'Boro is way too far for..then those of us that live equally far from both can go to both if they want.
Oh today finally 99% of the ice is off my road...2 days above freezing but we now have pavement...YAY!!

Seeing I am North of Cartage (way out there) I would be willing to do both meet ups - a Murfreesboro and the Cookeville one. So I vote we don't have them both on the same day *smile*. And next time I'm taking more pictures!!!

Raven - I am really looking forward to meeting you seeing we are in the same county and maybe fairly close. I am out by Kempville / Defeated creek area.

Shelly- Hi yes it is nice to find fellow
D.gif
crazies. My daughters husbands family is in your neck of the woods it is just beautiful out there
I am going to try to make both of the next two meetups very sorry I missed the last one

Morning all! Good to "hear" everyone chatting away. I agree with CityGirl and the others who voted for more than one date - - I sort of see all this as an ongoing thing, not just one or two meetings/lunches. . . so if you miss one, there will always be another one coming up!

Mid-40s and raining here . . . the rain really doesn't bother me much when the temps get up like this in winter. Anything above freezing feels like an absolute blessing! Tomorrow I may be all crabby with mucky pen cleanup, etc., but today is just fine.

Hey oldchickenlady, if your hens go broody and you don't have a roo, I feel sure you could get some really nice hatching eggs from one of our TN folks! If you get an incubator running, you could have all sorts of hatches going!
lol.png
Incubators are a great backup in case a broody changes her mind, too.

bikechick, nice home made bator!
smile.png

Shelly, hope your drive to work isn't too bad today. I was thinking of you in the flood while I was outside this morning! Watch those roads. . .

Okla-doodle-doo, what on earth would you have done with 35 more bantams!!! Your dear wife would have smacked you for sure. . . . Actually, knowing you, you would have marched outside and built a really neat coop and run within an hour or so . . . while cooking dinner for 20 and finishing a quilt, LOL! I have never met a more industrious man. I am already feeling more lazy by the minute, LOL!
lol.png
(The more I think about it, the more I understand why your wife lets you get away with all those critters!)

Holly, how is it out your way this morning? Mucky??? I had to spread a couple of bales of wheat straw out in the back yard to keep the mud down. By spring it is usually ground in pretty good, so that when the grass starts growing you can't see it any more.

Raven1, hope you can make the next meet! I would love to meet you in person. Be sure to bring pictures!
smile.png

CityGirl . . . Buon giorno!! Are you ready for beautiful Italy???? One final suggestion - - if you don't already do this, I highly recommend keeping a travel journal. On my trips I force myself to sit down every night and write a few pages about the day. Even just an outline works . . . it will be a precious reminder of your trip years later when you have forgotten the details. If you're a good writer, it will be a lovely memento for you later, too! I am so glad I did that for my trips.

Mornin', y'all!

It's rainy and soggy here. The chickies don't seem to mind. As long as the ground isn't white they are cool. I slogged through inches of mud this morning in my magic muck boots. That was $14.95 well spent!

Oldchickenlady- you will find that we are all a bunch of enablers when it comes to hatching. Some one nearby will either have eggs for sale or trade to fill that bator every time it empties. You have to watch out for Jenski and Hbuehler. They are the Queens of Enabling.
big_smile.png

Bikechick- love the big, blue bator!
smile.png
I don't have turners for my setup. I confess that I like hand turning the eggs. I might even have chatted with the eggs on more than one occasion as I turned them. Maybe...

Shelley, Raven and Holly- are y'all supposed to get more snow in this next round? I haven't really watched the news in a while, but I vaguely heard something about more snow on the way. ???? Strap on those snow tires, women!

Okla-doodle-doo- Did you get the new dog? You know we are going to need pictures, right?
smile.png

Jenski- I leave in just over a week. I have already started packing. Whoohoo!!!! My house sitter will be coming out sometime later in the week, so I am also frantically scrubbing out the mess. The journal is a good idea. I had already planned on doing a photo blog. I'm still working out the internet access, but according to their websites, all of our hotels have wifi. Because of the presentation I have to do at that conference, I'll have a little netbook with me. I'm hoping I can download pictures and shoot them out to a blog each night. If I can get it to work, it'll be here- http://stagerightofvenice.blogspot.com/

I'm
off to educate the youth of America. Y'all have a great day!

When I was outside this morning, my little golden neck bantam roo called--called--called his lady to the treats "he" had found for her. When I came in he was bravely guarding the coop doorway while she tried to lay an egg. I laughed when I remembered the conversations we have had regarding the personalities hens vs. roosters . . .

Hens:

Love your pics Jenski1 - hens/roosters. that will make me smile all day today at work.

... and you are all right about the "Queens of Enabling" - but I am so thankful that Holly brought the eggs for me this weekend. I am on day #3 on my incubating ... and while I sit here at work I'm all worried about my humidity levels - LOL. Texted my boyfriend to ask what they were ... how is that for obsessed? Yesterday Jason and I built the brooder (got about 75% done) ... it's actually pretty big. much to big for new chicks but will work great during weeks 3-7. I am so lucky that he is so accomodating with my animal addictions! *smile*

You know as soon as I seen rain in the morning I was 'on guard' for any flooding with these dry creek beds, but I was good this morning no floods. Traffic was so light at 8:30am on I-40 too. The yard is a muddy mess though ... I had to tramp through the horse pasture to feed to horses and it was awful ... all I could think of was how the heck am I going to get some grass growing again - can't wait for SPRING!!!

SOMEONE out there ... you know who you are ... has me thinking about Silkies. I'm trying to pace myself here and grow my chicken farm up slowly ... but after looking at all these beautiful chickens you all have ... oh boy I need will power.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Muddy here today as well. No frozen waterers thank goodness. I don't expect that to last long though. I lost 14 of the shipped eggs I had set BUMMER! Only 2 of my own eggs though. One I set upside down. Duh! One to a blood ring. I really need these shipped eggs to hatch for my fall breeding to showgirls. Spent the better part of my day hanging with Miss Judy and her silkies. Wow those Premier she picked up at Nationals are awesome! Wish I had a whole coop full of those babies! Loved looking at all her birds. Came home to 2 eggs in the coop, not sure who is laying as I left pretty early today.
Other than that made plans to go to Dalton and possibly show Edward, Lori and I will be going to Newnan but I am not showing there, just too far to take my babies in this weather. I don't like the idea of him being held overnight is some old barn anyway. Newnan is a 2 day show. If he could come back to the room I might consider it but overnight with other birds not getting his beauty rest and all that stress. NOT MY BOY!

I still have blue and splash chicks that need new homes ya'll
