The Middle Tennessee Thread

Check out this pic I saw in a purina post on my facebook feed tonight. My coop, in the position it is, also has a tree right at it so I was having a hard time deciding how to do the pen. I'm glad I saw this, cause I never would've thought of the "tunnel" and the pop door on a pulley.
I miss having my chickens so bad, and I'm really getting frustrated with the whole house insurance property claim, demo, and rebuilding.
I got promoted to GM of my division at work, but it's not a blessing yet, because ALL I'm doing is working, and nothing is getting done at the old house. It's already been almost 2 months and nothing really towards anything... I'm getting antsy now!

Hey guys just wanted to post my results with my feed experiments. I have tried a lot of different brands of feeds, good stuff when I had the money and the cheaper stuff when I didn't want to make the drive to TSC. I have tried Dumor, Purina, Faithway and the birds always wasted a lot of it. I cleaned the coops out today and I know I shoveled a half bag of feed off the floor...not good. I had heard about Crooked Stick Feeds in Doyle Tn and went to see what he had. I had explained that I had just purchased some Dumor a week before when I got there and just wanted to browse around and check things out and didn't need any feed at the time. We chatted it up a bit I told him about the feed going to waste and such, I do have the feeders that are made to help prevent them from throwing it out ( little buggers ) but it didn't seem to stop them. He said here take a bag on me and try this out, hey free feed lets try it right. I tried it in the big coop for a couple of weeks no waste at all awesome. I went and got more today to try with the others I cleaned the coops put down new shavings and fresh water. All 3 coops had some food left so no one was starving I emptied what food was left and replaced it with Tucker Feeds. I wish had filmed it or at least took some pics everyone was chowing down, actually eating it and not raking it out. Just a little over 11 dollars for a bag I am too thrilled with this feed and wanted to share. I have never seen them go after it like this before !

Love Tuckers feed! My birds are wasting it, but we are working hard to fix that issue. So far so good. Tuckers is made with pork not soy. I have also noticed in the chicks, the poo is firmer not runny. Where did you get it for 11? a bag? Layer feed is 13.99 a bag and pullet grower was 14.99 a bag and chick starter was something like $17 a bag (med) I got a discount for ordering a ton of .50 a bag.

It smells good too. The stuff from Coop smells bad to me, like cheap dog food. I don't like the others with soy..... Edwards feed smelled good, my son said it smelled like candy to him. But it was soy based. I prefer the meat in Tuckers.

hey chad...I found that my chicken waste alot of feed also and had to cam up with a fix..we were buying one 50lb. bag of purina layena crumbles one every 5-6 days for 40 chickens, until we went to TSC one day and saw the the round rubber livestock feeders we bought it and put in under their feeder and immediately the feed wastage stopped now it all goes in the pan and every couple of days I pour what is in the pan back into the feeder and it usually fills it up again and it is a 7 lb feeder...so that shows me that they were wasting about 25 lbs of feed a week....now we only by one 50 lb bag of purina layena crumbles every 3 weeks....I have found out by watching the chickens how they waste it...they rake it out with their beaks I guess so they can find a good enough piece to eat lol!! silly chickens

I got in Doyle Tn at Crooked Stick Feeds. I'm not a big fan of sow either GMO I watch them plant it in the field behind me after it comes up they spray the field with glyphosate the GMO sow is resistant to it. The whole Monsanto's thing is a bit creepy and out of hand. I'm sure the pigs are fed sow so it's kinda hard to dodge these days.
