The Middle Tennessee Thread

One of my BRs is getting an awful lot of pink in its comb and under its comb, makes a "brrrrrt" sound instead of a cluck or cheep, and is now hopping on its sisters and some of the younger RIR... Pretty sure it's a roo

I have just listed on CL , but poss. someone here is interested.
I have 5 mixed EE chicks hatched 2 days ago.

All nice healthy chicks but my house guest is about to go into labor w/ her baby any day now so I need to sell these chicks as I won't be home to care for them when we have to run to the hospital for a human birth - have a farm sitter but dayold chicks is too much to ask.

These are from diff. hatchery quality breed birds in my layer flock all under my mixed EE Roo Handsome who is multicolored & part Jap. so he has 5 toes, one of these chicks has five toes, all are diff. looking, one appears to be from my Buff. Orp, the others are grey, black, & cream. Could lay any color egg -- blue, green, peachy, tan.

I'm 16 miles from Fall Creek Falls State Park.

PM me if interested.

This pic is Handsome during molt - he is much prettier now, w/ very long green/black tail feathers.

Did you get hit from the tornado?   I haven't been on here in awhile....gum station is a nice area....we loved it out there...

Yep that's why I'm coopless. Big BIG tree dropped right down the middle of my coop. Killed 3 hens & injured my roo so bad I put him down. How long have ya'll been gone? I'm the 8th house on the right coming from the sulfer creek end. Where were ya'll ?

Oh, interesting; I did not know that either! I have 1 Maran from my NYDH, a pullet (she is looking really nice, I've very excited to see what she will lay) had not considered her going broody at any point...so many breeds, so much to learn, so nice to have ya'll here on BYC to get great info (& chickens even) from!

Also, hello new ppl :)

Looks like Springfield area has taken the lead in folks w/ chickens, obviously the rest of use will need to urgently do chicken math in order to keep up ; >

I AM doing my part on that even now, I have 24 eggs in LD in hatcher, 45 (yah overloaded) in the Bator, half a doz awaiting bator space,
& I'll admit to ah 13+3+5 in brooders in the bathroom/laundry rm atm.

Anyone else?

I have 600 eggs in our incubators. Um, oops? I don't have space for eggs from THIS week either. Then on the 5th I have 4 trays going into the hatcher.

Today I got a taste of how SERIOUS broody she is. I went into the coop and another chicken was in the nesting box that Fancy Pants...my maran... usually uses....Fancy was on top of her telling her off at seriously loud decimals and pecking at her. She had no room to get up so I had to pick up Fancy, and she was none too happy about that, to get the other chicken out of there. I took her and her egg outside and shut the door for awhile. As soon as I opened it again, Fancy ran in and got into the nesting box. Talk about serious attitude.....she wanted the box and the other chickens egg.
