Oh, interesting; I did not know that either! I have 1 Maran from my NYDH, a pullet (she is looking really nice, I've very excited to see what she will lay) had not considered her going broody at any point...so many breeds, so much to learn, so nice to have ya'll here on BYC to get great info (& chickens even) from!

Also, hello new ppl![]()
Looks like Springfield area has taken the lead in folks w/ chickens, obviously the rest of use will need to urgently do chicken math in order to keep up ; >
I AM doing my part on that even now, I have 24 eggs in LD in hatcher, 45 (yah overloaded) in the Bator, half a doz awaiting bator space,
& I'll admit to ah 13+3+5 in brooders in the bathroom/laundry rm atm.
Anyone else?
Today I got a taste of how SERIOUS broody she is. I went into the coop and another chicken was in the nesting box that Fancy Pants...my maran... usually uses....Fancy was on top of her telling her off at seriously loud decimals and pecking at her. She had no room to get up so I had to pick up Fancy, and she was none too happy about that, to get the other chicken out of there. I took her and her egg outside and shut the door for awhile. As soon as I opened it again, Fancy ran in and got into the nesting box. Talk about serious attitude.....she wanted the box and the other chickens egg.Oh, interesting; I did not know that either! that will take care of the sexlinks I am hatching. Was strange to look in the hatcher and see nothing but PULLETS in the sexlink basket.
Gave them to him straight out of the hatcher too.![]()
