The DE you would have to buy.... get food grade (TSC has it)

I told hubby we better get cracking on making more rain barrels... cuz in a few months we will be SOOOOO happy we have 4 times as much as we have now. We left my 8cb ft wheel barrow was left out to clean it.... It was FULL at LUNCH. Rained much more than that after lunch

Well look on the bright side.... If that had been snow we would have what 8 feet of it to shovel

If you look on Craigs list, you can pick up 275-gallon IBC food grade square totes with the metal cage for about $100. These are easier to use than the 55-gallon barrels.

Who here has added acorn feed for their chickens?

Knowing the nutrient benefits, we are looking in this as a winter supplement as acorns are overly abundant on the farm.

We know about the tannins in the acorns and how to purge acorns of it. Also, the acorns must be fully ripe and of the white oak tree type.

Anyone got feedback here?

Tossing this question back into the ring here ....

Keep hearing so many different stories.....got an alert on my IPhone about it, but the weather channel says it's going west of the Nashville area, local weather says differently....yet the thermostat on my car say 35 degrees which is just cold rain....going to take some precautions anyway....
Hope everyone gets through this ok.....stay dry, warm and keep us updated!!

I am keeping all of my chickens inside today...way to rainy and cold for everyone...they are in enjoying the dry warm house they have

BMaverick, I have cracked and tossed acorns to my flock but limit what I give to the variety I can eat as is. I'm lazy like that. It's surely one of the white oak types and we have a lot of them around. The ladies run to the driveway in search of car-cracked acorns also.

what is DE or untreated wood ash and where do you purchase it
Sam In Conroe
Cracker Barrel will give you their ashes if you ask, at least they did for me. Buy the food grade DE at TSC-but you don't need it if your using the wood ash. I use 1/3 dirt ,1/3 sand, 1/3 wood ash. If you see any mites or fleas ever, rub wood ash all the way to the skin once a week until gone. I have not had the problem yet. I have wood ash lightly sprinkled under my deep litter, and a few pinches under the shavings in the nest boxes.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on. Nasty weather, Eh?
I lost a few young ones in the nasty weather sadly.. everything is frozen here..
I have been thinking hard the last few weeks, And I have decided I need to get rid of most of my birds, As much as I hate to. But I need to focus more on my future, and need to get a good runnin car..

I am really reluctant to even get rid of anything because I love them so much..
But if anyone is interested in the following, Please PM me.

Pair of Chocolate Wyandottes
Pair of Blue laced Red Wyandottes (Black Laced Red rooster and Splash hen)
2 blue laced red cockerals, turning out great.. One is extremely petified.

I am keeping my SLW and Silver Pencilled, can't bring myself to get rid of them, As they are my favorite.
