I'm sorry you lost JW. I know it is hard to take that action but it is one of great compassion.

I hope the insurance ppl decide your way on replacement for the coop etc.

x2. After the huge hail storm a few years back we found out our "farm policy" did not cover our chicken coop. I am hoping your policy does.

The weird part is he said a doghouse is usually covered, but he wasn't sure about the chicken coop. ??? The hens wont be covered, said i'd have to have a farm policy. ??? Why can't I claim it as personal property damage ?

When your ready, your girls are covered with my Ins Policy.

What kinda roo do you want? Another Marans or a Splash Laced Red Wyandotte? Not rush to get them, just let me know so I don't send them to the roo guy or sell them.

Tin I am so sorry about JW. If Donna does not have the "right "roo I have a couple of Black Copper Marans to choose from just let me know.
Donna, I have a waiting list for eggs right now and the girls are still in winter mode, but if you want chicks I think the 2 New Years babies are a pair. I am meeting someone Saturday in Lebanon with birds if you are going to be in the area I can bring them. You got any Cream Legbars... maybe a pair? ;)

I have 4 CCL eggs in lockdown. I will let you know what I get. I have lots more coming. I may want those crosses too.... let me see if I can make roo. PM me how much you want for them. I think I only NEED the pullet, I might send the roo off to the roo guy.

TinTN I don't have a Marans Roo right now.... sorry.

I'll post more pics tomorrow when we get them all downloaded but look at this!

This is my New Heritage Buckeye Roo !
Look how huge & beautiful he is !!! I'm crazy for him already.
He is SO gentle too, I mean he just had a long confusing trip, and had hardly been out of the travel carrier 90 secs. when
I reached over & picked him up for the photo -- he didn't flinch or move away or make a noise he just calmly let me pick him up like I'd done
it everyday since he was an egg, as you can see I could barely hold him he is soooo big but he didn't fuss or wiggle or anything!

(pls ignore my Michaeline man show suit, not my best look, but it is way cold on our mtn today)

I am sooo excited!

Oh & you should SEE the Hen & pullet oh my they are just as lovely. It was overcast almost snowing and still the Hen's feathers *glistened* ,
this Trio is simply radiant. I have wanted quality Buckeyes for over a decade now, I am tearing up with joy.
This Trio came from Chris McCary, he is a breeder of Buckeyes and he selected this group for me specifically.
I told him what I wanted & also that I'm a small person so he picked taking temperament into account esp. on the Roo.
I am completely thrilled-- they are beyond what I could have imagined.

The Hen laid an egg on the way home & my DH was nearly dancing around about how large the egg is, really I could not be more happy w/ these birds from Chris.

Thanks for letting me gush to ppl who understand : )
I got my first buckeye in august, she has been great--wonderful personality- she thinks she's a dog, follows us everywhere. Litlechicklet, welcome! I read both threads--now all 3 threads since the chatt. thread started. I've really learned alot on BYC since I started my flock in May.

The insurance adjuster made it to the house today. Half my siding has to be replaced, the front half of the roof gets new shingles, around 250 ft of new fence, 2 new columns for the front porch, minor brick repair, some new screens & 1 window. Tree removal & finally he doesn't know if the coop will be covered. :-( I'm not gonna be happy if its not but I will rebuild somehow. Sadly JW didn't make it I think he had internal injuries. He started passing blood Friday. Wasn't real active kinda lethargic, I couldnt stand to let him suffer so i put him down. Total losses now are 4 birds more than half my birds & the coop. Sometimes your the bug sometimes your the windshield.
Sorry to hear about JW and the other birds....so sad. Didn't realize you had so much damage to your home, try to keep positive and we'll all pray that it works out...let us know if we can help!

I'm thinking about not replacing JW. My neighbor finally confessed he sent the anonamous letter. Apparently everyone nearby was thoroughly annoyed by him. I rather enjoyed hearing him crow. If there was a breed that didn't crow i might consider getting one but would never go so far as surgery to silence a roo. That just seems cruel. On the bright side this will give me more room ( 1 spot ) for more hens. Thank you everyone for your kind offers of roos. But to keep the peace I better not just now.
