I am looking into getting an owl call. The kind you plug in and every few mins it hoots. At the same time I will get a fake owl on a stick and move it around. My chickens wont like it but at least they will be safe. I'll let ya'll know how that turns out in a couple weeks LOL

Just want to clarify......you cant do ANYTHING to hawks.......it is a felony with huge fines.
Actually not true! haha.. You can file and obtain a WS-37 depredation permit with the USDA Wildlife Services. they will come out and observe and assess the situation and then help file for the permit with the US Fish and Wildlife Services if they fill a problem has to be resolved. Or just follow the 3 S rule

Thank y'all so much for your help and knowledge! I think I'll just call the cities/towns we're looking at and see what info I can get. Unfortunately, we can't buy a house yet so we don't plan on having help from a realtor. Right now we're looking at a house for rent in White House. Sure hope we get it and that White House allows backyard chickens; That way, when we do buy a house we can stay in the same town. Probably won't be able to have chickens until we can buy a house but I sure do enjoy learning from everybody here while I wait! I even have a chicken tractor picked out that my dad's gonna help us build. I've been researching all the different types of chickens and have made a list of ones I'm interested in learning more about, etc. I can spend hours on here reading and learning. LOVE BYC.com!!
White House will be a great place for you and your family..it is a small town that has all you need in it, right next to I-65 and you can go 5 min. in any direction and be in the country

We used to crow hunt several years ago, the call we used was a electronic call that had crows hollering and owls hooting.. more times than not a Hawk would come in to investigate what the ruckuses was all about..i think those calls you are talking about are made to deter rodents and smaller birds.. unless your talking about something im not familiar with

Yes i know you can try to get a permit. My neighbor has a special permit for that. He said you have to have a relly good reason to use it. Just saw on the news a few weeks ago about cattle farmers losing calves to those vulter type birds. They are attaching the calves as they are being born and there was nothing they could do about it because of the migratory bird act.

Get the permits BEFORE you do anything....even firecrackers. $10,000 fines for disturbing them in anyway.

My neighbor has Great Pyrenees dogs that will attack the vultures. Great watchdogs, esp for livestock.

Sorry, not been real active. I just started college again and it's taking up a bit of my time. Sigh.

Love to start off my day with a laugh......let the girls out this morning and was throwing their feed in the run when I noticed Goldie the Orpington was spreading her legs, squatting down and wobbling her behind. I thought maybe she was going to lay an egg right there but she didn't so I thought I should check her and see if she was egg bound or had another problem. Apparently she had a pine cone stuck on the underside of her fluffy butt and was trying to shake it off....so funny.

I tried the Mr clean magic eraser. It works on most crayons on hard surfaces. Forget about red crayon or the pencil on fabric! I just have to repaint the room and for get about the car interior. But thanks for the input
No Mr eraser will NOT work on this kind of stain. In school supplies find an art eraser, light tan colored crumbles up a lot-- I have removed pencil markers from fabric with it. Not the rubbery type.

Just wanted to let everyone know I have some BBS Orpingtons for sale a little over 6 weeks of age 17 total. I'll even throw in a few dozen of these darn skeeters too they are bad this year. They are 15.00 each or we can work something out on the whole bunch if your interested in all of them. Here is a group photo mostly BBS Orp's but a few Barnies and Marans in the mix.
