The Middle Tennessee Thread

Just wanted to say "hi" to the mid_TN folks on here. I'm in Clarksville and relatively new to chicken keeping, but I am hooked. City council legalized back yard hens last fall here.

then he screws the wire onto the pipe..
How was this made? I need to make one myself and have never made nothing lol. If you don't mind me asking how much was it to make and what size is it? Like if I went to Lowe's what would my supply list be? Sorry I am a newbie

very true, we attached to a coop, but you could always attach 4 wheels to it and push it around. I believe he use plenty of glue, he also painted it to make it last longer in the weather.

As far as an inexpensive ready-made small coop, I would recommend the guy in Monteagle who advertises on Craigslist. For $175, you can get a great little coop on wheels that will hold a few chickens. The small one is perfect also to separate a broody hen or to keep a breeding pair. He advertises that it'll hold 5-6 chickens, but I think that would be too crowded. I wouldn't put more than 2 or 3 grown chickens in the small coop. I don't have the skills to build anything myself, and I'd spend more than he charges getting materials to make it - not even counting the many hours it would take me build it. We have one of the small ones that I use for broody hens or for breeding pairs - and our first coop was one of his larger ones that he charges $300-something for. The nesting boxes are small. I just take out the divider to make one nest box out of two.

When I bought the small coop, I borrowed my son's truck and small trailer and drove to Monteagle by myself. The guy loaded it on the trailer and got it tied down well (I brought bungee cords and rope), and I drove it home and easily unloaded and set it up by myself.
