So I have the option to buy a male peacock today for a good price... I want to cause they are beautiful but I also wanted to save my empty 12x12 run for my phoenix chickens. So torn right now.... Not to worried about the neighbors one has turkeys the other has a dog I named ADT cause if a blade of grass moves in my yard she barks like crazy...

I have Peacocks and I love them! Mine are penned right now but they freerange alot in the fall/winter. Will you be getting a hen to keep him company? My pens are 30X40 and hold a pair in one and a trio in the other. A 12X12 would work but you will want to build a bigger one in the long run as they do better with more space.
What color is he?

Becky guinea are going to be hatching over the next couple of weeks. coral blues go in lockdown today......and the next will be within a week I think. if you come to town let me know so we can hook up for sone keets owe you.

I need figure out how to turn off auto correct.....this phone makes ebook crazy and I can't usually even see whatnot type to fix it.

I think I am gonna hold off for right now till I can have a bigger run for peacocks. I love my phoenix rooster even though I am working on making him like me lol. I really want to keep the 12x12 for jim bob my roo and find a couple phoenix hens. Only problem is everyone thinks he is a fighting bird and I am way against that. So that kinda makes me Leery on breeding them cause so many people my way fight roosters..

LOL.. Not a silly question at all. Once my Husband gets home I will ask him for the directions and will send a personal message. I do know the chicken wire is the more expensive part of it.

Right now the "pen" is going in the corner of the yard with the exisiting fence, and I have fence posts, so I will build the fence around the corner, then make a PVC structure on top of that with the roof, all covered in chicken wire fence. Lowes has the chicken wire fence here (2") 50 ft x 2 ft roll about $8. I'm also devising a door/gate out of pvc.

I have a silkie/cochin cockerel who just started crowing. He is my first bird and I would love to get him 2-3 hens for laying, but want to start out with pullets.
What are some of the best breeds to look for that will give good productivity, but will still have a docile, nice, etc. personality?
I know my cockerel will change with hens to some degree, but he is such a sweetheart and I don't want any issues. He acts more like a puppy than a bird!
Some I had found already that I would love opinions on (or if you have any for sale...) are light sussex, silver laced Wyandotte, and silver gray dorking.

Hey, y'all! Checking with you one last time before I put them on Craigslist or sell to strangers. I have about 10 buff silkie pullets I need to sell to thin out their pen. Five of them are show quality. The other five have black in their topknots or wings tips. They are shaped great, just have that dark color fault. All are super sweet and docile. At least half of them are currently broody. Sigh. All are laying when they are not determinedly sitting on eggs. There is a rooster in there with them, so at least for a bit all will lay fertile eggs. This rooster is lighter, so he may fix the color faults in the offspring of the darker hens. I haven't done a hatch yet with this boy, so I don't know for sure.

PM me if you are interested. Some have expressed an interest in certain birds already and have been waiting on more pictures. My life has sort of turned upside down and getting those pictures is proving hard to do. If you are still interested, pick a couple of the ones you like best and let's just meet up so you can check them out in person. At this point that would be easier.

I have Ameraucana/EE crosses (dad was legit, moms not so much ;-) and I love them. They are quirky little ladies, but then so am I. Their turquoise and blue eggs are always like getting a jewel out of the egg box. Though they don't seem to like to lay through the entire winter, but maybe it's just mine (I had not heard that about the breed/s).
I have a friend who has Dominiques, and those are a very friendly heritage breed. She gave me one who follows me around the yard like a puppy "talking" (sounds like she's asking a question: cu-cluck?). That bird laid all through the winter like a champ.

Got my first egg today.

Mine are 18 weeks old and it was one of my leghorn hens. Can't wait until they are all laying. My little bantam cochin roos are chasing everyone around. Even chasing my Jersey Giants, now that is something to see. They will grab them by the feather and the Jersey Giants will take off running dragging the roo behind and the roo will be trying to apply its brakes to no avail.

It is hilarious.
