The Middle Tennessee Thread

we used the thinner PVC elbows and cut 2.5 inches off the one side so that lip was gone and it would slide into the hole we cut. we hot glued them just in case too. filled them up and using them!

Hi, I'm Tim Shelton from Dickson, Tn. Does anyone in the Middle Tn. area have any Chocolate Wyandotte Bantams available?

I have LF sort of, but none available till spring. I lost my only breeding pullet. I have several little pullets growing out so by spring I should have some. mine are on the small side for LF but not bantams.

I don't know of anyone else that has choc wyandottes.....

Hi, Tim! Looks like there will be a bunch of Wyandotte folks at the Green River show in a couple weeks. There are also hatching eggs for sale on eBay! ;)

Any ideas on why my two 1.5 year old barred rocks are only laying soft-shelled eggs?

Background: I had some feed issues over the summer, because I couldn't find grower feed and had a mixed flock. So I started feeding non-medicated starter for about a month, with some occasional protein supplements and eggshells/oyster shells. For some reason, my two barred rocks (I think it's both of them, but I'm not sure) have been laying soft-shelled eggs ever since. They've now been back on layer ration (Tucker Super Layer) for over a month, and I have kept oyster shells and eggshells out for them, as well. The soft-shelled eggs also only occasionally show up in the nest boxes; I usually find them under the roost, which is odd.

I don't have a good answer....I do think they don't FEEL they need to lay an egg as strong when they re soft. I too find most in the coop under the roost pole.

sometimes mine will go through a stage of laying them and return to normal pretty soon. just keep offering calcium. could be hormonal with molt coming on too....IDK

I got a call from my neighbor at 230 this morning to check my birds. Her dog had been in my yard and came home with a feather in her mouth. Her dog broke down an entire wall of my coop and pulled my favorite bird, Dorothy, out. (She's my avatar/soul mate.) She is a little beat up, has some puncture wounds and is missing some feathers but is still breathing. She's very calm but I think that's because it's still dark. I called the emergency vet but for birds, they have you leave a message and call you back. It's been three hours and still no call back. Has anyone had any experience with an injured bird that has survived? I will do whatever it takes for her. She's in a large dog travel crate wrapped in a towel right now. If she makes it to morning, I'm going to make her a cricket and meal worm omelet!!!
