The Middle Tennessee Thread

That is a great Swede, Raine! I love the dark ones!
Thanks :) (& I know what you mean, I posted pics of her on the SFH thread seeking comments & not a single responce although the several other ppl to post pics in the past 2 wks all got feedback about their birds <shrug> guess Flo just wasn't very interesting to anyone outside of TN? ) I do have the 2 SFH chicks I hatched moved to an outdoor brooder as of yesterday, they are 4 wks now so if one is male & all other things going my way I will someday have pure SFH eggs from Flo which I will be very happy to swap w/ you for some Swede eggs from your flock! Wish I still had my Swede roo b/c then I'd have those eggs now rather than 6+ months from now...sigh...

BTW -- candled last night, the eggs from you I'm incubating to round out the replacement flock for my friends still have 12 going strong!! fingers crossed

That is exactly it!
Here is the mystery baby I am holding for ya. Pretty sure its a girl!
Broody Mama is currently molting - she's normally quite a pretty hen.

Hahaha took at those feet, won't get cold toes in winter w/ those feather boots-- have you named her yet? (I'm think Boots now of course). Appears about the right size to mix in w/ the SHF & SpSux & the 2 mutt EE/OE I just mixed them w/ yesterday. They will all make a cozy little flock until I pull out the Swedes in the spring into their own breeder group/area. Then (assuming she is a she) will get to go into the layer flock, which is mostly EE/OE mutts plus a few random "wanted to try the breed" so she'll fit right in.

Hmmm... I have the opposite luck... I sell a lot of birds out of state and very few locally.
Have folks coming from two different states this weekend to buy cockerels.
Isn't is strange how that all works.
I do very little on BYC... almost everything is done from my web page... and word of mouth.

Apparently it is all totally random.

I've not been heavily into trying to sell, I had a lot of mutt EEs this past spring when I was setting them as filler while I was testing a few pure eggs & learning my incubators so I sold those via CL & to a few ppl word of mouth as I had more at the time than I wanted so I could make space for the purebreeds.

Really I posted over on the SFH list just to get other opinions on that quality of that one bird as I'm going to a fair amt. of trouble to get her a mate which would be silly if she has some major flaw I'm not seeing. (Same w/ the CL pair, its rather random that I have the birds, if they are breeding worthy then I'll incubate more of their eggs, if not then then he just got lucky to be over my layer flock atm and her eggs will go into my breakfast or fresh egg sales to neighbors which is where my main focus is as far as raising money to feed the birds.)

As for breeding, I'm really more interested in the H.BR & H.Buckeyes that I'm working with atm, but since I have these others which are rather rare in the US I do feel if they are worthy of breeding then I have a sort of responsibility to make sure some of their offspring make it back out into the world & don't just genetically dead end on my farm.

the sfh thread has been pretty quiet recently since one of the main contributors got banned. We talk to her a lot in other ways now. Won't go into details but it was silly. My original sfh came from her. If I had the room and the money I would keep them thru the winter but I am out of room and really do not plan to ship chicks - which I would need to do to sell this breed. With my other two breeds I have enough friends raising them that I simply don't need to worry about transport. I don't want to get into shipping. .. And I only sell a few birds each year. I eat most of the ones I raise as I believe in obit breeding the best ones each year. .. I don't want to put 2nd best back into the gene pool. We are eating a LOT of Rhodebars this year. .. they need so much improvement deciding on my breeders was easy. Lol

I was never tyring to sell anything on the SFH thread- really I just like to post pictures. I have a history of losing computers, so its a way for me to go back and find my favorites- lol!

I would be interested in more swedes- I have a flock of 12 and a couple juvies, but gosh- they are so pretty. Can't get enough.

MY what do Mauves look like at hatch? I have 2 choc pullets and 3 black roos and 1 more hatched that looks silver almost lavender.....I don't know if it is mauve or not.....kinda has a brown hue but IDK? GOT PICS????????
