some where OBVIOUSLY sick and should not have been allowed to be sold. I will not go back. what was really scary one of the guys that was working the sale bought most of them to resale at the Lebanon flea market.....not going in his booth anymore......
I would suggest that anyone who went to the sale should Lysol their boots, to keep the flock safe.

The best course of action when buying birds at auctions or swap meets is to have a quarantine area completely separate from your home flock. Then change clothes and shoes before you go from one flock to the other. I realize that it may not be possible from everyone, but if you have the area it is wise to keep this set up.

Question.....my layers have been going through the molt....feathers everywhere!! My question is how long does this last ( we've been doing it for about 3 weeks) and when do they start laying again.

Second Question....I have 3 that hatched April 30th....a splash maran, a salmon faverole, and a columbian wyandotte. The maran and wyandotte have bright red combs for the past 2 1/2 weeks, not the faverole yet....why are they not laying???????? Great food, good eaters, clean water every day, outside everyday (fenced) and all healthy. My first group from last year....(the ones molting now)....were all laying by now.

Becky your birds are absolutely beautiful and I am honored to have gotten a few they are happy :)
Donna..... That is why I only buy grown birds from people I know never auctions or flea markets

Thank you Connie! I am so glad you like them and it was harder than I thought it would be to let them go.So glad you got them and I know they will be cared for and loved!

I have gotten sick birds that way too. :(

I always quarantine and she did too BUT she didn't really practice bio security. they MAY have transferred it to her birds by walking back and forth between the two. it was a precaution to cull her healthy flock.

So glad that all the chickens I have gotten thus far have been healthy. I've had no problems with them at all. I buy from a lady on here and will continue to use her, since I've not had any trouble with sick birds. My Welsummer babies are finally big enough to be let out among the older girls and rooster. They are doing so good! My rooster has finally started 'covering' the girls. Caught him at it a few times lol. Beekeepers meeting tonight with the hubby. My favorite nights :)
