I know some feed dog and cat food but not sure that's good for them. what part of Nashville are you in? the coop in Ashland city sells Tucker's with pork. 22% protein. they don't sell it at the Nashville coop on Dickerson road. Bonnie's barnyard sells it. I can buy some for you down the road if you want. a week ago it was $13.25 a bag.

Donna what's the weight on a bag of that feed? I might need to get some.

Let me CLARIFY BONNIE'S Barnyard has it for $13.25 the Co-op In ashland city is $13.99 it is on Hwy 49 across from the courthouse on the square.... well it is not really square.

Bonnies is off Henry Horton Hwy Triune/Arrington...... maybe not but close to there. SHE IS GREAT! The Co-op will not work with me on prices. I buy 2000-2500 a month from her and they will not give me a discount at all. The price difference is worth my drive.

I can let y'all know when I am going and can pick up enough for everyone that wants some. I go about once a month. I was there last week.

Yes, I have read you can use cat food……but if they were molting you would see feathers everywhere, unless they are just starting. Apparently when they molt has a lot to do with when they first started laying. Mine started in the fall and they molt in the fall.

Can I get some opinions please. I have a total of 12 hens & pullets. 2 silkie roos. I currently have 2 coops, in 1 I have 2 hens & 2 pullets. In the other 8 pullets & the 2 roos. My 2 hens are about 1 1/2 years old. All the pullets are about 7 months old. The 2 in with the hens were laying. 3 of the other pullets were laying. 5 have never layed an egg. My 2 hens are molting so they are not laying. But all the pullets have quit laying also. They have free access to food & water. I did switch brands of food about 2 months ago. They have not laid in about a month. This was about the time the days started to get shorter. I don't use artificial light or heat. The coops are not drafty but do have good ventilation. Should I switch food again or do you think its just due to shorter days, or do I have an egg eater? Help please I miss my eggs & refuse to buy store eggs!! Thank you.

You need to raise the protein level when birds are molting, It takes more protein to make feathers. This is a good time to feed meat or meat products. Hens generally quit laying when they are molting because all the protein that used to go in the egg is being used to produce feathers. The more protein they receive now, the faster they will grow feathers and get back to laying.
