The Middle Tennessee Thread

Ok, so I fed Professor Eagleton some meat. I cooked some salmon up for her. She REALLY liked it. I have a mix of layer pellets and game bird feed crumbles in her food bowl and a separate bowl of scratch. I feed her vegetables, fruit, bread, baby food, oatmeal, rice, and now fish as a treat every other day. She is still losing weight. My mastiff who cannot be trusted around birds was outside with me when I went to feed them today so I used my foot to block them from running out as I walked into the run and she ran into my leg it knocked her over and then she had a hard time getting up afterwards. She is eating so I don't understand the weight loss. She's only about 2 years old. Everyone else is doing fine. Does anyone know what might cause this or know of anything I can feed her to fatten her up? As always, I appreciate your time and information.

Someone may have already suggested this, but have you gave her any poultry wormer here lately. I give my SPPRs a dose of Wazine 17 poultry wormer once every 30 days.

Worming is a good idea. If you use DE on a regular basis you don't have to wait two weeks to eat the eggs again.
You can put her on some high protein game feed for a while and see if it helps her put some weight on too. It s a little more expensive, but if you only have a few birds it doesn't make too much difference.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate you guys more than you can possibly know. I am currently feeding her high protien game feed mixed with layer pellets but I'll give her just the game bird feed. and I have wormed her recently but I'll do it again. Would it be ok to feed her peanut butter, suet cakes, or something else that is high fat?

I just want to say "hello and good morning." Donna introduced me to the TN thread. Also greatest accolades to Donna for raising beautiful health birds. I look forward to seeing her again on Saturday.

you need to let me know what time we are meeting!

So my big chickens hit 6 months and started laying I thought I was gonna have to wait till spring to get any eggs. My question is will they keep laying or stop with it being this time of year.

I got some Barred rocks eggs from Donna and They have hatch and are growing into very beutifull young hens and roos. Nice tight barring

you can thank matt1616 for the barring or Good Shepard Poultry Ranch. I just breed them. I don't know how to improve the barring other than use birds with the best barring.
