Did some more searching. My problem was, I kept reading about the "new" rules and the rules I found were dated 2012, which didn't seem new. I guess they are.

Does any body know how to get NPIP certified? I have 14 chickens grown and I'm about to have some baby chicks in about 3 weeks sooo please help

When I called about the changes I was told I don't have to have a permit, but I still have to sell clean eggs that are edible in new egg cartons labeled with my name and phone number and the words "ungraded." They were squirrely on whether or not I needed a fridge and cleaning area just for the eggs. My son sells at least 12 dozen per week and this fall I hope to double that. We can hardly get $2.50 per dozen around here reliably. Ever so often I can get more. I do know there are people around here selling eggs for $5 but they either travel or they are upsold with a CSA box

Wow! Brown eggs free range at the grocery store here sell for $4/doz. I sell mine to my sister @ $5/first dozen, $4/second dozen - because I deliver and she lives 30 min away.

Lots of Sellers at the Franklin farmers market go for $5 per dozen. It is hard to compete here with so many just selling extra eggs for $2.

I'm new to TN and I know I don't have to have a permit to sell my own eggs for eating, but I couldn't find clarification on selling hatching eggs, is it the same?

I need a bunch of crazy permits to sell seedlings if it is to be more than 15% of the while farm total.

Also, I'm in Lewisburg and I need to find a good accountant that is used to doing farm work. I need to know what kinds of records I have to keep this year and how to get some tax breaks. I'm also wanting to know about getting a tax exempt permit for feed and supplies. Thoughts?

They will not test the chicks. Just the birds over 3 or 4 months old. I think it is pretty easy someone will pop in with that info. I don't know where my link is anymore.

I am in Lewisburg as well. Can't recommend an accountant though. Check with Bill at the Lewisburg Farm Center (across and down from the Co-Op), he might recommend someone.
