I'm looking for some orpington straight run chicks. What I'm wanting is a meaty duel purpose bird from a broody mother hen. I'd like to get around 15 chicks for under $50.

I would like to let the hens brood 4 or 5 batches each year. I've been looking at hatchery chicks but I would like to find heritage type orpingtons. I'm not much interested in the color as any color would be fine with me but I don't want to pay a premium price for a specialty color.

Hoping this isn't to much to hope/ask for.

Any help would be appreciated.

I rase black bbs and buff orpingtons I have the bator full of
17 black
9 bbs
0 buffs :(
But I will have to keep those cause I'm breeding them but if you are interested I can have some eggs in a couple days

I will have some after all my others hatch (IF) and I'll sell 15 to you at 3 dollars a piece

Those breeding practices are common among heritage too..... part of NORMAL BREEDING of some of the best breeders in the country. Brother and sister breeding is frond on but mother to son and father to daughter enhances characteristics you want to improve. Most good breeder never introduce new blood in their lines.
Interesting, I followed that link. In order to qualify as Heritage, they have to have started out as APA standards and you breed them naturally. I learn something new every day.

I have a friend who is interested in finding a lavender orp roo for her 2 lavendar hens. Anyone know where she can get one? Or some lav orp chicks? She got what she has from a person in Ashland City, but has lost her contact info.

Is there anybody on here close to the Nashville area that would be interested in mutt turkey eggs? I've collected 5 since last Monday, and soon as I get 1 more I'm going to incubate them to see how fertility is. I wish I had a second bator to use as a hatcher, I would just keep hatching them. But, I don't so I don't want to see the eggs go to waste. Thought I'd see if a fellow BYC'er may want some turks. My hen lays every other day, so I can collect a half dozen every couple weeks.
The Tom is a big boy ( upper 20 to lower 30 pounds ) and the hen is a naragansett. She's probably in the 18-20 pound range. He is from a naragansett tom over a midget white hen, so there's lot's of genes in the pool for this go round.
I would like to get a few turkeys to grow out for eating...keep me in mind!!

I am in need of advice. I am building a chicken palace. I got some cedar for an interior wall. Last night I read cedar is poison for chickens to breath. Do I need to take the wall down? I'm not going to use any more of it since I read that unless it is outside. I know old barns are made of cedar around here. What is yall's experience with cedar and chickens?

I don't use cedar for anything for chickens. My post on one barn are cedar but they are not cut so I don't worry about them.

When do you think they'll be ready?

I am really wanting some brooded by a hen could you put some eggs under a couple hens?

Chicks hatched out under a broody hen tend to be more broody. I don't want to use a incubator.

I can try putting some under a hen but I can't say for sure and if I did I'd have to charge more for feeding the hen cause I bring broodeys in the barn. I can put a hen in the barn and put eggs in their with her and see what happens!

I don't think that is true. It is in their genes or not. Maybe being RAISED by a broody might encourage that but just hatching them would not.
