Laying hens are only good for two years and after that the production goes down, but they still require expensive feed and care.
If the Hens can't pay for their up-keep, they are headed for the soup kitchen.
Pet Hens are different as they were not obtained for egg production, but they too can be costly after time.

If I had 10-12 laying hens and did not want to take them with me when moving, I would simply pass them along to the new residence. A dozen hens are too small group to deal with for anyone to purchase and too old also.
Roo's are not worth anything, and more than one is disaster. One Rooster to 24 hens is all you need anyhow. That makes him happy and the hens won't be bothered as much either.
