Chicks are available at most feed stores if you aren't concerned with breed standards and showing. If you are just getting started, I would consider older chickens so you can skip the whole brooding process until you are further along in the hobby. Some of the others here have fabulous websites so you can see their birds and of course nothing is as much fun as a home visit!!!
edited to add that I got my first Sebastopol egg for the season--- thank goodness, I was beginning to think my geese were "broken"
