Welcome to a very addictive forum Sam and Tracyree!! You will learn TONS and then realize that however many chickens you have you don't quite have enough!

that is awesome the first egg is always the best!!! ALTHOUGH my DH tried to trick me by dying a white egg blue from the store a few weeks prior to them started and he felt bad because i was so excited....he didn't realize we had (EE) ones that would lay that color

needless to say I still found the first egg...it was brown and still excited...but he had deflated it

oh well enjoy it more to come and it is a beautiful egg!!

Troyer- Whoohoo on the first egg!! Isn't it exciting?! I still get excited when I go out to collect eggs. It is like Christmas (or I guess Easter!).

So I think we said we would meet on Sunday, May 15. I don't know that we set a time. I think we are planning on storming a park with picnics and chickens in tow (and just asking for forgiveness when we get busted). What time and what park? I can go scope out Old Fort Park. I know they have pavilions and such. Are there any other parks that y'all can think of? What time do we want to play? Lunch? Late lunch? Early dinner? Dinner? I am game anytime.

I can also bring chicks/chickens if anyone is needing some. I have buff silkie adults, EE babies, some black Ameraucana babies, and some other random 6-8 week olds. I also have two splash AMs, but I'm pretty sure they are both boys. Sigh. THey are awfully pretty. I probably won't bring any chickens unless someone wants some. I hate to take them out of their environment if I don't have to.

I also have lots of eggs if anyone "needs" some Lets see Black/Blue Copper Marans, Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana,EE/ Ameraucana,Bantam Mille Fleur Cochin,Blue/Black-solid Cochin-Bantam ,BBS Bantam Ameraucana, and mixed bantam Cochin with Frizzle Roo.
Chicks..BLRW and a few Wheaten Ameraucana.. I'm not going to bring them unless someone wants me to...the chicks are all new hatch to 2 weeks by this weekend.
Sadly today Megan lost her Blue Cochin Roo...he's been battling something for a few weeks no medicine's seemed to really help him and yet he wasn't very sick but we could see it and being an older gent that he was it took it's toll.I thought we had him mended this morning as he was running around telling all he was back in business and eating everything he could find...but then a few hours later we found him.She took it pretty hard since I had just told her I really felt he was about back to his old ways. One of those

Well everyone, I just finished the trial run on the wiring for my incubator, and I'm pleased to say, it works perfectly so far. I tested the thermostat with the hair dryer and it cuts on and off just fine. Now all I gotta do is find a cooler or make one. I'm leaning on buying one cheap since I don't have time to make it at work.
Won't be long and I'll be hatchin' away! ( fingers crossed! )

Aww, tell Megan we're so sorry bout her roo! How sad - hope she'll get over it quickly and fall in love with a new fella!

Was it just me or was it hot today? Seemed muggy, even though weather.com only had us at 48% humidity..........or perhaps I turned into a wimp over the winter.

Yes please forgive me as I overlooked the passing of Megan's roo. I've lost several of my faves to our puppy and I feel her pain.
I hate that anything has to die, but it always makes room for a new friendship.

Awww... tell Megan I am so sorry for her loss.

Psst... Megan! Call me if you want a silkie roo... or seven... I have a herd of them out there that you can have!

Thanks everyone..this was her pet and her "income" trust me this girl needs money to pay for the wardrobe and gymnastics and...the list is long.He was a very good show bird as well...thankfully we own his black brother who is almost as nice as Blueberry was-he was bigger than Big(his hen is named Little) is and have hatched lots of blue from Big over the past few weeks. Only a heart of stone couldn't fall for bantam Cochin's
Thanks Anne but we have Toast already and he's enough Silkie roo for around here...I am semi looking I mean SEMI looking for a Splash Silkie Roo...my Blue and Black hens only have Toast now I let my Splash Roo go to a begging kid..see I don't like Silkies very much so you don't have to beg hard

. But,I'm also not sure I even want another Silkie Roo I may just keep them with my bantam Ameraucana roo and have fuffy green eggers because let me tell you those chicks are CUTE I mean cute!!
I can't believe it but I'm down to 3 turners of eggs and 1 is going to lockdown in the morning...chicks are leaving nearly as fast as they hatch as well..empty bators empty brooders Something must be wrong....they will be going back on shortly so they can brew chicks while I'm away and ready to hatch when I get home.

Sorry to hear about the roo loss.

.

Have any of you been to Poultry Hollow hatchery? they have all three breeds I'm looking for and we're thinking of heading up there this weekend. I'd really like to get all the girls at one time, seems like that would be the easiest on them? Although, he has some breeds that are 2 weeks old and the other breed as 9 weeks old. Guess I wouldn't be throwing those all together anyway. I think I overcomplicate things!!

I was hoping to start with day old chicks so that we could handle them a lot and be sure they are nice and friendly for the kids. Do you think getting chicks at 9 weeks and 2 weeks would work?
