So I got home late last night to find that my idiot dog has been taunting the neighbor's longhorn cow again and clearly the cow had had enough. Lily had a gaping hole in her side where the cow had horned her.
I called the vet and at 10:30pm was tearing off to Chapel Hill. He knocked her out and sewed her up and sent us home. That was fun and expensive. Even more fun was getting home with a comatose 55lb dog and figuring out how to get her back in the house (long story, but involved blankets, heavy lifting and a lot of huffing and puffing). Then I couldn't get her to wake up. It was 2am before I finally got her up and mobile enough to feel comfortable letting her go back to bed. The poor (idiot) dog is now laying on the chair looking pitiful and feeling rotten. Let's hope this teaches her to stay away from the pokey horned cows in the future.
FrankenLily-
I had an interesting project going with this last hatch. I have a barred EE rooster in my LF pen and he is merrily trying to make babies with all the girls, including the welsummers. The thought is that perhaps we can get some crele EEs out of the deal. Well, the babies hatched and there are indeed some interesting babies in there. Traditionally I get all black chicks due to the barred rocks and black roosters. These babies are brown. Feathers are starting to come in. See what you think.
My luck all three will be roosters. Sigh. Let's hope at least one turns out to be a girl.
This scared the hooey out of me the other evening. I came out of the run and turned into it. It was almost like those movie scenes where the alien blob plasters itself all over the face of its unsuspecting victim. ACK! I'm guessing it's a moth of some sort. It was about the size of my hand.
And finally, my front garden is starting to bloom. Despite a constant battle with weeds, this area makes me happy.
Due to the dog fiasco, I would rather meet in Murfreesboro this time so I can scoot back home to check on her. If we meet in Murfreesboro I can stay and chat longer.
If we can't it is no big deal. I'll catch you the next go around. Just let me know time and place for tomorrow.
TNchickie, lots of us around here have silkies. You just have to pick your color! I have some buff girls that are around 8 months old that I am getting ready to sell. PM me if you are interested. Silkietime in Joelton has splash and white. SimplySplendid has black and blue. Someone (whose name I can't ever remember) has paint. Just pick a color!
Apparently I will be lolling about the house today. I cancelled my Dickson meeting to stay home and keep an eye on Lily. Perhaps she will nap all day so I can cut the grass and plant all the flowers I bought at Lowe's yesterday. Y'all have a great Saturday!!
