The Middle Tennessee Thread

radform I sent you an e-mail.
For some reason my messages won't open so please don't PM me that poor smiley face is blue and worn out
Sold 5 hens off the layers but I keep finding more.
I also have lots of hatching eggs available in some breeds..the one's without broody hens lining up in the coops:idunno

Jenski-Lucy has her babies!! Well not hers but some EE chicks she loves like hers I moved her to a cage in the chick house so during the day she can let them roam around in there-it's nearly empty and they won't get caught by mean ol hens and killed

What fun, Econman! Would of loved to see his eyes!

More reading, and I'm trying to decide between Ameracauna's, Orpingtons and Marans..........advice?

Believer here is my advice
Marans Orpington and Ameraucana

1 of each for a colorful flock. I love color so my choices would be blue copper Marans or splash Lavender Orpington but beware they are expensive started but cheaper than chicks...high mortality rate we have found and Ameraucana any are pretty or EE for unique
Ok I'm no help

Holly, what a novel idea. I've obviously got a mixed group anyway.

Then I went to Ravens webpage and realized that I need, I mean want (want) a bunch of different marans, so this isn't going to be easy.

But that's a start.

Now y'all help me figure out what age is going to fit in best, ok? Mike is coming next Thurs to 'do the coop'. So perhaps I could get my new girls in the next couple weeks. Also, if I get a couple different breeds, and they come from different people or pens how do I go about acclimating them to one another? I can manage to divide my coop/pen into 2 sections, but not more.

I know y'all have got to be tired of all my questions, so I thank you in advance for being such good sports!

I've never met a chicken I don't want to bring home

I would go with a big pullet so she's big enough to hold up to the vetrans of the coop.
I'm not as nice as some..after they go through quarantine I toss them out and let them work it out...kind of like too much interference on the playground..leave the kids alone and let them work it out unless the blows get real bad.It works better to toss out a few though and not just one..the new kids will team up and the old cranks can't focus as much on just one kid..then I have some that just look at the new kids and walk off shaking their heads.

Double akkkk! Raven, they're all so beautiful.......but........How can a person choose? So not fair!

Would peoples with Orpington, Marans and Ameracauna's pm and let me know where you're located? B/c of gas I'm hoping not to drive all over, but I am getting so excited about the prospect of some new fuzz!

I think my two part Silkies are molting right now, so hopefully before long there'll be lots of new color and feathers in my pen. Tish, I'm sorry, but we really need large eggs, so I guess I'll hafta pass on adding more silkies for now.

How long do you all quarantine, and how far from the current girls do the new ones need to be?
