The Middle Tennessee Thread

Anne,
I didn't want to trim because I want to show both of them this fall. It is the white silkie pair, Omelet and Egglatine. I also have a great black roo, some really nice splash hens and I believe a blue roo (thought he/she was a hen---but who knows). Also the porcelain boy from Trish and the splash from Connie. I need more hens now but doubt any eggs that have been shipped in will hatch. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH.

I need a mini conference of the Mid TN Poultry Club at the house. Or better yet, somewhere I can bring chickens into the air conditioning...maybe I am starting to let the heat fry my brain. I really want some show experienced people to add their opinions as well.

Come on girls and guys....who wants to help me?

Anne did he come from me? If so I believe he's a silkie cross His comb is wrong, horrible toe feathering and he has a Mohawk starting from the looks of him so in other words he's adorable

He's not a blue mottled for sure looks more like when a dominant white is one parent white with some color leaks.

We made it through the storms like all the other rain events lately..completely dry

The little gold and blue was a surprise hatch out of my banty pen. Daddy is a buff silkie. Mama has to be a blue sumatra. Funky, eh? I am smitten. It has a nosy little personality too. Cute as can be.

The white mottled one did come from the eggs I got from you. There were two that made it out and they both look like this one. They are white with blue speckles. Beats me what they really are. He's pretty cute though. Also has a great personality.

It's an adorable cross that and the silkie bantam Amaruacana cross. That pen only had cochins and silkies.Didn't mean that his toe feathering is horrible..just if he were a pure cochin it would be..the crosses always have that same feathering.I haven't been able to hatch one from that pen lately..my silkies are all just free loading and loafing so much so I threaten chicken soup.Everything is hatching pure cochin..the cross pullets people just love they are so cute.

There is several articles and video's on AI...going to have to get it mastered with the cochin's..the higher the quality cochin the harder it is to get chicks naturally without a trim job...my solid's are real hard to get a chick from...all fluff no chicken I have a site marked someplace that has a real good and "easy" way for AI I'll see if I can find it.

boy i was feeling really silly for a minute....I didn't know what AI was...

got it now... I didn't realize they did that for chickens

OH Holly of the Wheaten Am's i got 4 yes 4 pullets and 2 roos....only one has a smooth face....one of the roos escaped somehow and is free ranging...UGH well I am back to work tomorrow fun fun!!! We had an amazing lightning show here last night i think it rained some overnight but not much. Hoping for cooler weather tomorrow

Not a single one of my golden lakenvelders hatched. I've had my bator shut down for almost 2 weeks, and I really want some RIR's. Think I might buy some of the heritage ones from Luckypickens. She's the one that shipped me cochin banty eggs and 8 of 13 hatched. And the cochins are really nice. Heavy feathers on the legs. I lost 2 to the dad gum cocci. At least this time I had the meds on hand to fight it. My four EE's from the first hatch back in June, have been free ranging. They always come home at dark, but I think they're all missing everyday. I went out tonight to move my goat and saw one of them in the tall weeds close to her. It sure has been nice to not have ticks anymore. They were bad here. But I'm really ready for some eggs. I think I might go on and make tractors so I can keep the breeds separate. Having them has really made it a fun summer for me and the boys.

CityGirl, I didn't realize you had such bad storms down there the other night. All we got was some lightning in the distance and a bit of a breeze. Hope your new roof held up like a champ!

HBuehler, still no rain over your way? I can't imagine all this nasty heat with no rain for that long. We got a good, good rain last Saturday that kept the ground nice and soft (and full of mushrooms!).

So is it October yet???

Anyone going to the WilCo Fair next weekend? I think it starts Friday 8/12. If it's still wicked hot I can't imagine showing animals. They really should change the rules about keeping birds down there for an entire week. . .
