Finally got moved into the farm... have spotty cell service and no dsl..so I am suffering with "high speed" dial up.....LOL

Got the kids (goat and people) a great pyr puppy Sunday and Tuesday he was wheezing and then had a seizure and then went limp. We are a praying family, so the kids started praying for the little guy and he started coughing and then came to. Hubby and the boys went to the emergency clinic because, of course, this happened at 9pm.. the Vet said that it was most likely the adult dog flea spray that his previous owners sprayed on him right when we picked him up. It is toxic to puppies... Anyway, he got his shots, was wormed and is now terrorizing the cats....

We got some chickens today. We got 3 Buff Orps about a year old. DH and the middle boy spent all week getting the henhouse and yard ready. They still have to build a covered run for when we aren't home. We aren't sure if we should build a ramp to the laying boxes. They are about 2 ft off the ground. Any ideas?

We are going to divide the yard as it it HUGE and make it a rotating garden/chicken yard. Has anyone done this?

Aww, bless the puppy. I do hope this is the end of the doggie drama for several months at least!

I'm working on getting the whole garden area enclosed with fencing, but in the past I have had chickens overwinter in my garden. It was bug-almost-free and very few weeds that next year.

Don't let the big bottom chickens fool you: they can jump to get in the door. If a ramp or step makes you happy, put one there. If it will be in your way, don't. Hold a treat above their heads and see how high they jump if you are worried. They might need "putting up" the first couple of nights until they know where "bed" is.

That is what we were thinking. My 13 year old boy put them in their boxes...they either loved it or were afraid to jump out!LOL

They might decide they like special treatment, so watch out!

My brother has a rooster that only wants ONE special hen on the roost next to him. If anyone else hops up there it is "peck, peck" until a human intervenes. My brother and mother play his game. My father and uncle do NOT. Dad says they eventually work it out and shut up for the night. Lol.

Finally home..kids made sure I ran out of money-tax free shopping

Now that I'm finished with my traveling and will be home for awhile, I am looking for female chicks of the following breeds - preferably within driving distance of Nashville.

Definitely want:
Araucana (not EEs) - any color
Ameraucana (not EEs) - any color
Black Copper Maran
Welsummer

Would like:
Olive Egger
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Golden Laced Wyandotte

Sorry, but I can't do a "straight run" since I can't have roosters - only pullets. Since I'll have to put them altogether, I would need to get them close to the same age. Anybody?

CarolJ I can help you with 3 wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullets but they are already around 4 months 2 are blue wheaten 1 is wheaten but all are beautiful

Countrypunk-think the reason no one breeds Giants is they are slow to mature so make lousy meat birds..they are huge bodied young but 0 meat.By the time they have enough to eat them they are as tough as leather then eat a lot to maintain that size and only average egg layers.

Kids got something so didn't make it out to Raven's today

that's always fun...never know what will be coming home.
