The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hey everyone. Just updating yall about the happenings. All is well at the farm though summer and fall are fighting here and apparently can't decide what season its goin to be. The chickens are all healthy. The laying hens are enjoying the coon proof hen house and the batamn hens are ready to have a coop too. Construction on the bantam hen quarters starts tommorrow. The goats are all fine and in 8 days will be introduced to the buck

yumm. The cattle are all showing signs of pregnancy and the calving season should start saturday october first. The RIR/Deleware cross chicks are doing amazing. . . except one who had a broken foot. I named him hop but i found him withered away in the back of the single hen brooding tractor, even though mama is an excellent mother. My new pullets look like they will start laying soon and my mille fluer d'uccle are laying faithfully....perhaps one more batch of chicks before winter??? My rather old RIR hens are doing amazing by the way. They are probably 3 years old at very least and out of the 4 RIR and the one Deleware(all over 3 years old) I am getting 2-3 eggs a day consistently. and my deleware who has a distinctly different egg lays daily. Also I got my first double yolker from my deleware 2 days ago... I ate it in an omlet that night. It was huge. Probably 1 and a half times bigger than a jumbo egg at the store. I was thrilled

The housing authority about got caught up here then along came a corporate down sizing so I could bring more home than I need to..but I promised I wouldn't.However,I never said what that number was I needed so I'm safe
