I am not only going to continue to set the trap I am going to buy more traps of different sizes and set them. One time is all it takes with me. I will not let this happen again. In fact till proper housing is built at the new place everyone will be in my 2 car garage safe and sound. I will set traps there before ever putting my babies in danger. I expect all kinds of critters. We are way out in the wood there.

312 pages to read through...LOL. Can't wait to move to Middle TN and get to know ya'll. We should be settled in by November so I figure the winter will be a good time to get the coop built and ready and get the garden built and tilled for spring.

We used to live in Chestnut Mound but 10 years ago moved back to Florida for family reasons. Now we can move back to God's Country and settle in Overton County. Right now, since I haven't kept chickens before, KISS will be my motto. I'm leaning towards some Buff Orpies but will welcome any advice for newbies. I definitely want to let them free range in the yard and garden during the day. Miss those orange yolks....yummmm.

Accepting any and all advice...

I don't have any Buff Orpingtons, although they're one of the breeds I want to add to my flock soon. I love my easter eggers. They're fun to have - I love the colored eggs - and there is such a wide variety of looks. My absolute favorite is my New Hampshire Red, though. She just reminds me of the Little Red Hen - so inquisitive and lays such a nice egg - almost every day.

I'm impressed you read all 312 pages! I've read most of them - but I probably should spend a little time and read all of them.

I suggest a variety to start with so you can decide for yourself what you like and then go from there.What you like and what you find works best for you may be a breed someone else didn't have much luck with or they just didn't do "it" for them.Here it's Wyandotte's Blue laced red and Partridge one's only and none of those from a hatchery

We don't care much for the more common layers here but have a few Fluffy,Speedy,Sunset,Willow and more named family pets lifers here.
Then I suggest a big coop and then a bigger coop then another..add a bator then 2 when you start hatching hundreds you will be officially one of us crazy people on here

When you get the coops finished it will be time for a bunny

On Sat I drove to Louisville and brought home 3 more Hotot rabbits. This wouldn't be nearly so crazy if I wasn't heading to Indy next month anyway.But for laughs..on the way home the rubber gasket around one of my headlights popped loose..darn pothole I had all 3 kids in the car no tape no tools and it was flopping around like it was going to fall off completely so we used the only thing we could find in the car to hold it until we got home.Bazooka bubble gum

For pipping today!!!! I have had more little problems with this hatch. Grandbaby turned it off once, light bulb blew (only one of two) but everything was ok. Then BOTH lights in the hatcher blew (WTH?) it only got in the 80's for a little while but all that my delay my hatch.

I will change ALL the bulbs for this next very important hatch! and tape the light switches in the ON position.

So I have 3 doz eggs in the fridge. All my eggs from my Red birds this week will go in this next hatch. I need lots more layers
