Oh almost forgot... that stinking FBCM ROO tried to flog me AGAIN!!!!! Hubby was there and went NINJA on him.... kinda funny really. He told him " You don't do that to my wife!!! She is not a chicken!!!" I don't really know what that means but it was funny

SOOOOO Wishing I had not gotten rid of the number two roo now
he.gif
He was eaten by something and then sold, poor thing. May not do that culling again.

Do roos really not fight as much in a pen by themselves? I was in the pen because one of the other roos was limping and we put him in a cage so he could heal. He is a keeper roo so he needs to make it through. I did not see anything bad just a limp. I will check him again in the morning.

they don't have the sense to go inside. The ones I have now only one did not go in during that torrential downpour the other day. Good thing I went down when I did. My LF never have a problem

Holly was great she stood outside and talked chicken even though it was sprinkling. BUT everyone I have met with on here has been great!!! Mid Tn has a great bunch of people

Nothing worse than a flogging roo. I think of it like this. There are way too many unwanted Roos out there to keep a mean one. Holly by the way sorry to gear about your roo

Carol I know the feeling. I have to stop myself lol. But yeah my DH goes to other peoples house daily and if they have chickens it's a long call
smile.png
. You gotta put pics up of the coop when you get it!!!! Don't worry with all these enablers you will have no problem filling up

You all have been a chatty bunch the last couple of days! I lost two of my young ones to the cold and rain also.
This is a great bunch of folks and we do need a meet up I have yet to get to one but really want to! I have met a few peeps from here and have enjoyed each and everyone.

Okay, y'all... someone throw out a time and place and let's meet! There has been some talk of moving the next one to Nashville so it will be more central. Let's vote on a date and go for it!

The reason Silkies don't go in when they get wet is their crests. Once its wet it covers their eyes and they can't see to go in. As long as mine can get in before their crests get too wet they all go in. But a sudden down pour finds me out there getting soaked rescuing them.

There are no dumb questions just dumb people..remember the post I had last weekend from CL-perfect example
gig.gif

I may be a bit crazy since chickens are ate every day and taste so good and they die for what seems like nothing but I don't want to sell one of mine and put them in a situation where they are not going to be taken care of or left for the coons dinner..that said where is my Rooster
barnie.gif

Mites are horrible now so if your loosing birds for nothing check for mites and then worms. If you don't know the birds history worm with Wazine not ivermectin though.I just did that by accident and sure enough killed the bird..oops Cochins and Silkies are trickier than many breeds because of their fluff they appear to have more meat than they do at times and harbor crawlies like crazy because they are yard sweepers.Mites make them weak which lets things like cocci set in very quick and in this weather cocci will start and run like crazy.

Donna-sell him he's not worth keeping.I sold Moron for such behavior and he was a keeper for sure. It's so nice though not wondering where he's at.Keeping them alone won't help your problem other than knowing where your problem is.After Ninja training he may behave. Our RIR had his neck wrung to the point his eyes were about to pop and he never touched me again..instant attitude adjustment and others had the same treatment and refused to learn...they leave.

Well, I'm off with 9 little girls camping this weekend.Thank you mother nature for the return of winter this weekend...thanks a bunch
he.gif
At 8 am tomorrow morning we will have them all bundled up for a 2 hour obstacle coarse...anyone want to volunteer to take my spot
idunno.gif
I'm sure ONE day I will look back and remember how much fun it was but for the present time all I see is COLD

Now who ate my rooster? Why is it when you only have one and can't get another
barnie.gif
I'm sure he wandered off to parts unknown..nothing close by can have a rooster lunch without the dogs on top of it...unless it was my dog
roll.png

Anne a meet up sounds good but remember we have nationals next weekend and Something to Crow about the weekend of Nov. 18. For me I think everything else is open till mid Nov. I will admit driving in Nashville will be a challenge for me but I wil try.

I have to put up this particular bird every evening so I knew she would still be out there. She has a trimmed crest just stubborn

Morning everyone! It's actually really nice outside here this morning now that the wind has died down. I love these crisp fall mornings! Some of my birds aren't too happy, though - - the molting girls are a bit shivery today. I don't want any health issues from the sudden cold, so all my coops have a small bit of heat running in case anyone wants to dash back inside. So far only my silkies don't seem to mind the weather! They will all acclimate soon enough, though.

I see there have been some discussions about coop heating in the past few days, so I will throw out a bit of info that has worked for me - - reptile heating supplies. The insulated heat ropes can be safely taped to coop walls and ceilings with electrical tape or other non-metal fasteners, and the insulated flat heating elements can be attached to ceramic tiles and placed in a coop with almost zero fire risk. While bigger coops with large flocks tend to maintain their own heat in winter, coops like mine that may only have 2-4 delicate banties at a time can benefit from these low-watt heat options.

I also keep a DeLonghi sealed-oil heater in my one larger coop, but in winter it is mounted in a specially-made cage that keeps it about 18" off the ground and keeps birds from getting too close. It also gets regular cleanings, and it is carefully checked (including the cord, which is specially mounted on the inside of the wall studs) every time it is used.

I know CityGirl mentioned she does not usually hatch late in the season, and neither do I. I like my birds feathered out and fully grown before it gets cold, so no worrying about little chicks when the weather is iffy. I like to roll with as little stress as possible.

Hope you all enjoy the day! I am conducting a free wine tasting tonight over in Lebanon. . . if anyone is interested in checking it out, feel free to PM me.
