Thanks for the prayers, y'all. Dad isn't doing so great. The shoulder hurts (as is expected), but the bigger problem is these back spasms. They just bend him double. He's on enough morphine to knock out an elephant and it isn't even touching the pain. My dad is really stoic and those spasms make him holler. The doctors don't really know what's causing them. Dad has had back problems before (in his younger days). We're wondering if he has screwed up a disk or something by twisting as he fell. Hopefully we can talk to a neurologist tomorrow and see what is going on. At the moment he can't sit up or walk unassisted. The nurse got him up on the edge of the bed tonight so he could eat dinner and I thought he was going to pass out. It's horrible. Of course he doesn't want to eat anything and that just makes him all the weaker. Sigh. Parents getting old sucks.
The plan at the moment is to get him into an extended care floor (like a nursing home, but not exactly). Mom can't take care of him at home until he can walk around unassisted and that's not going to happen until his back is better. He's not exactly thrilled. The thought is that he would be there a couple of weeks and then go home. It all depends on what Medicare says. They may send him home. I'm not sure what we'll do then.
Lori- thanks for the food offer. Mom is staying there with him. We fixed her up last night with a stash of snacks. Daddy isn't eating the meals they bring him, so she has been eating them. Plus my sister is on break and can run over as needed. I was there all day yesterday and half the day today and got her settled fairly well. You are sweet to offer though.
If y'all would continue to pray for healing I would appreciate it. He is really in a bind right now.
