Just called and gave the "details" on what I wanted in my coop that hubby got me for my birthday....so excited but won't get it for 5-6 weeks....so here's my question...my girls are about 5 months old....do you think they might start laying before I get the new coop, and if so I've heard it can be very tramatic for them to switch coops once they start laying in another one. Is this true? Or will they be so thrilled at their new larger "Coup Deville" that they won't care.

Also, as you know one of my silkies Hattie turned out to be Henry and I have to let him go, my problem is he is so close with the other one, who is a girl, that I don't know if I should let them go as a pair or be selfish and keep Stella for myself.....which is what I really want to do. I mean they are close, they walk side by side all the time, sleep together and I have even caught him sleeping with his wing hugging over her....seriously. What should I do.....

I have read that too that they would stop laying.... I don't think that is really true, not very much anyway. I have never had new layers STOP laying when I got them. Nor do they stop laying when I move them. Maybe for a day or two, but not just STOP.

If you are worried about them, just sell them as a pair... your mind will be more at ease.

Last November I moved all my layers into a new and improved coop - and there was no noticeable change in laying. Chickens are pretty adaptable. In my experience, they settle down In a new home pretty quickly - and they become "friends" with other chickens if their buddy goes away. I would keep the hen and sell the roo. :)

Hi Middle TN chicken fans. Been a backyard chickens.com web fan for some time. But, just joined the forum. I have a 13 week old Rhode Island Red that needs a new home. I will drive him to you. My city flock can't keep him. And we only recently figured out he was male. I think we were in denial. He is wonderful. Will be missed. Thanks.

Speaking of roos.... I had someone call me today and she has lost her roo/roos to predators. She is looking for 2 roos, I think they need to be bigger roos so they can protect her hens and free range. If anyone has 2 roos cheap or free let me know and I will get you in touch with her.

I don't have any extra roos
