Well...my house burned this evening and the four of us barely made it out! Very sad night here. We all survived but our house is done for. I lost all the chcks from my last hatch and all the fish we had. I tried to go back in for them, but couldn't get by the smoke. We are all in our red cross supplied hotel room trying to figure things out. I know it's mostly just stuff, but it sure hurts.

Oh wow - that's awful! I'm so sorry! Is there anything we can do to help? Is the house a total loss? Yes - it's mostly stuff, but it was your stuff and stuff that was important to you. Thank God you and your family are okay!

If the SFH chicks you hatched from the eggs you got from me were lost, I'll provide you with more eggs - or hatch out some new chicks for you - whenever you're ready for them.

I got my first egg today, yaaaaaaaaaa !!!! My Pullets are 19 weeks 4 days old. I'm pretty sure this one came from my Barred Rock Polka,

Congratulations!!! Exciting isn't it?

It may take them longer to start laying because of the time of year. The day light is getting shorter and it may take them longer to start. I had one EE that didn't start till she was 9 months because of the time of year. In due time...... My original Marans start laying about November and hatched in mid April.

Here's another thing that's kind of strange.....I figured the small tan egg came from the Silkie because the others are supposed to lay larger and darker eggs.....I know it takes each hen 25 hours to make an egg. So yesterday about 2, I checked and sure enough there was an egg.....but then this morning about 10 there were 2 more eggs so they could not have possibly come from the Silkie. No clue what's going on. They've been hanging around this section of the yard with some tall thick plantings and this morning the Maran started doing what I thought was the egg song as she came out from this area...but after a few minutes we combed every inch of it and there were no eggs.....I think I'm raising a flock of hormonally confused hens!!!

Does anyone here sell or know someone who sells duck eggs. I met a lady who can't eat chicken eggs but can eat duck eggs. I told her I would check with you all. She lives north of Nashville .
