The Middle Tennessee Thread

I have a Blue Orpington Boy that has grown very quickly over the last few weeks and now he has longer legs than fits his body but he is walking like hislegs are real stiff, high stepping walking on his toes and has no balance and he can not roost he would rather lay in the coop floor. During the day he lays down most of the time and he cant run that well or he falls to one side. What could be wrong with my poor boy? He is only 4 months old.

does he have sores on the bottom of his feet?...does he have mites?...just check him over tomorrow to see if you can see any sores or mites or raised leg scales or really just anything out of the ordinary.

No none of that i have searching for anything that could make him like that i even had him in the house for 3 days to see if he needed to just rest and he still was doing all that

Could be Marek's?
That was my first thought. I had a roo do that...I thought he hurt his leg, took him out of the pen, he got some better started to get up and about some. Next thing I know he is acting like he had a stroke. I am not sure what happened, but I am thinking mereks. He is better, but can't walk. I am not giving up on him yet. If he can figure out how to walk on one leg, he gets to stay.

Maybe, but probably not. They are just learning and take their time. I have a lavender that started laying a few months ago.... laid about 3 eggs and quit, now she is laying again and seems to be more regular, but time will tell.
Glad to hear that....my copper maran finally laid the most beautiful chocolate brown egg 5 days ago and hasn't laid one since.

Matlock....you still out there? I need to know if you still want my Silkie roo. I know you have other things on your mind and I was planning to hold onto him until you got things back together but things changed this morning. He's starting to crow earlier and louder and I was worried about the neighbors so I went out to let them out of the coop and noticed he has attracted a young dog in the area. He was first on my front porch and then followed the sound around back. I shoooed (?) him away and he took off like a light but he may come back. The yard is fenced but I know they have their ways and while my dog pays no attention to him and the girls I don't want anything to happen like others on here have said happened to them. The girls don't make much noise....except for my talkative maran....but I really don't want him to start attracting unwanted friends. .......just let me know if you read this.
