I keep imagining Leghorns with strawberry combs (the Malay kind) and white chocolate almond earlobes and keep double checking the pictures to make sure.

Actually, both commas are unnecessary, unless the "... and shone in the sun..." bit is intended to be "optional."
You could actually go either way with it....
