Me too! I have to make sure they meet standard weight. My d’Anvers are always the right size but my bantam Buckeyes are oversized. Especially the males who have an incredible amount of muscle mass and just keep gaining as they get older. They are supposed to be bantams, and 45-50 oz. Is pushing it when they should be 34. So I keep having to choose the smallest males-which is hard because I want smaller birds with muscle, not just skinny ones.

We like to know the weight ranges of the birds we raise and try to put a similar amount of meat in each package.

We sell meat chickens that we've processed as well, so knowing what they weigh is important.

When's show season start?

When's show season start?

Well the first show in WI is in June. Then there’s fair season. I’m now a licensed fair judge and I show at the county and state fairs.
Finally, there’s the usual show season which is September through early November, when birds are *supposed* to be grown/in condition in WI. Farther south they have shows right now then, since winter is when birds are in the best feather typically.

We have a show in mid April down at our state fairgrounds.
Nothing much after that until June or July.

We learmed the hard way that birds wont avoid a pool when i had a sumatra drown a few years ago.
