What are all you all chickening now days? Plans now, before fall is up, over winter, sometime before spring gets here?

Come winter I'll be focusing on survival, streamlining chores etc. Being able to keep everyone fed, watered, dry and not frozen as fast and easily as I can so I don't get frozen. I hate winter.
From very soon till spring I will be downsizing by ridding un-needed or surplus. Mostly males, older hens or pullets with flaws. That's probably also gonna mean days of moving birds to different pens when needed.

I don't have any older ones over here. It's just those chick's that I hatched. I don't get as cold, nor have the kind of snow that some of you have. I grew up where it was cold and snowed, and I'm glad that I don't have to shovel snow. It's the hot summer's that I have my worries.

I know this isn't exactly about chickens, but it does involve chicken egg's here in Arizona. I just found out that Hickman's Farms may sell the farm to an global egg producer from Brazil. How will we know if those egg's are American or not if they do? My flock isn't laying egg's yet.

I would suspect if the sell goes through and that farm continues to operate then the eggs will be laid in America by undocumented illegal alien chickens.
So  if the eggs should be called American or not.

Ugh. Just so much ugh.
We don't eat pork so we really like turkey bacon, so :tongue. Sometimes I cook it in the pannelli press, cooks fast that way. The other night I cooked it in the oven on a sheet pan. Either way it's quite yummy and not nearly as greasy as pork bacon! Doesn't shrink, either.

Got a few pictures of the Brown Leghorn roosters from Don.

This one is my favorite, even though one of the points on his comb is wonky.

Very handsome dudes. Love the stance on #1. Nice, flat back. Beautiful hackles on #2.

I have my flock down to 20ish…?🤔 All of them are from this year’s hatches. Mr Floppy the RIR rooster has 9 pullets. At least 6 of them are laying. My flock of Eggers (or mutts) are led by a predominantly white no name rooster with green tail feathers. None of my egger pullets are laying yet. They were my last group to hatch and I suspect it will be January before they start laying.

My rooster guy is either going to find me some OEGBs to breed or I will get some hatching eggs from him when his young ones start laying. He has fawn duckwing and BB red.

I’m still working on converting the 2nd doublewide trailer we acquired from the purchase of adjoining property into a proper shop. I just turned the power back on so I can see what I’m doing and actually be able to operate saws and other fun things. I will have a busy winter. Thankfully our winters are not as brutal as MO winters so I don’t hate it quite like Moony does. I’m doing all this while still working out of town so I get one day a week to work on this project plus all the other things around the house that need my attention. Good times 😁

That must be why I hold it vertically. I am insane. That explains everything. 😆
