I'm still waiting for my click.
I just can't seem to find the time to learn genetics yet.

Ha. Always time for at least some baby steps isn't there?
You know if you wouldn't of been so hard headed about hatching for so long.

What I've found works best -and I am by no means an expert at anything- is just breeding and hatching birds and trying to get something. I learned genetics most when I could apply it.
Once I bred the birds, I figured out the genetics.

I breed chickens, but am currently getting some crazy colored Call ducks.
Who knew that some whites with blue fawn in the background would suddenly give me blue bibbed when I bred them with a grey? I only solved that mystery recently.

Do you know why that happened? If you're not sure and want to know, I can tell you I'm not so good with chickens yet, but ducks I know well.

I do know. One of the drakes expressed the Extended Black gene. It was in my white line the whole time, and I didn't know until I bred to a grey.

How you been?
The birds are doing well.
I thought I was gonna lose the older rooster for minute. He was really down for about a week back in the dead of winter but with the wife's help we got him to pull through. He did loss some points to frost bite but I'm just glad he's back to 100%.
I've gotten two eggs from the older hen but none yet from the younger one.
Idk what's up but many of my birds have been slow to get to laying this spring.
Hope all is well.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that you and your wife saved the guy!

All's well for me.. One person with the relatives of birds you have was surprised by how well they are laying, one had her rooster go rogue, and one that lives nearest to me lost 3 hens to a dog attack ---

All I have left is two spent hens (Cream Legbars -- age 7 1/2 and 5) and an Isbar rooster who has the best personality of any roo I've ever had -- and I think he is on his last legs...he's approaching 5-years old too -- so maybe his time is about up. Such a great bird though. My pens are sold and a garden is in where they stood....soil that was the floor of chicken pens for 5+ years. Producing quite well.
