Leghorns here are fast feathering. This is about as crisp as I ever get.

Not bad. I can imagine how long the barred one took to mature. Imagine meticulously ensuring the conditioning pens were just right! My d’Anvers are really rough-colored but hopefully the Dominique blood will change that.

Used to be 5. But as of the last few years ive been hearing 5 or 6. IDK I'm sticking with 5.

Is there a difference between barred and cuckoo?

Same gene.
When on a fast feathering breed its cuckoo.
When on slow feathering breed its barred.
The slow feather growth rate is why barred is cleaner and crisper then cuckoo.
