Go with your husband's plan. If things go bad then you can pout until he lets you hatch more chicks. We had some casualties today. So far we have lost 4 of the juvenile birds we just turned loose. They somehow managed to get into the lot where the turkeys and extra roosters were so we are assuming the turkeys killed them. Two were Red x Brown Leghorn cockerels and 2 were Games. Also lost one of the older Olive Egger hens. She died of natural causes. She looks like she just died in her sleep the way she was laying. Poor old girl. So sad day for chickening.
Plus to beat it all, take a look at our weather for the next week. If the juveniles we turned loose survive all this rain without piling and trying to sleep out in the rain, it will be a miracle. I had thought about catching them all back up but you have to fight feather picking or them being in the rain. So what is the better of two evils? My husband says may only the strong survive, and what makes it, makes it. It’s a good thing I’ve had a good year hatching.
