The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I shipped my friend’s eggs on Monday 5/5 via USPS and they are still meandering around the continent somewhere, but only God knows where they are now. The 3 day “Priority” shipping has turned into 1.5 weeks and they are still no where to be found. RIP little turkey embroyos. 😢
Ugh - hate it when that happens. Sorry :( The only thing that makes me feel slightly better when that happens is that at least they weren't chicks.

I have had fairly decent luck with shipped eggs so far this year, but that can change in a second. Hopefully not. :fl

FedEx seems to be a better option than USPS, so if I ship in the future I will use them. My friend received his eggs today, and none were broken. They arrived in 3 days, so we were quite happy.

I have a date tomorrow afternoon with a chicken lady in Academy Sports parking lot. My eggs will ship WallyG Express!
That is always the best way to get eggs/birds if you are lucky enough to have breeders with decent birds locally. Unfortunately, if you want decent stock in my area, you have to order them or drive a long distance away to get them.

One time years ago, I bought 12 "White Leghorn pullets" from a local chicken peddler before I realized she was a chicken peddler. I quarantined the chicks and they were healthy at least, but as the chicks grew, I realized that something was way off about these birds. Instead of 12 White Leghorn pullets, I grew out 12 Red Sex-Link looking cockerels (white mixed breed looking birds). Every single one were roosters. Coincidence? No. Bad luck? Not quite. I heard from an inside source that these people order unwanted male cockerel chicks from hatcheries for cents each and resell them for dollars each. Now that people have caught onto a lot of their trickery, they sell the cockerels as "straight run" and toss a couple of pullet chicks into the group of cockerels so it isn't so obvious and the poor unsuspecting people that fall prey to these people just think they have bad luck and their high rate of cockerel chicks is just chance. Sickening.

We are expecting some bad storms starting tonight and over the next couple of days, with predicted high winds and potential tornado weather. So of course, there is the potential for power outages. Every time we get a storm, it never fails that I have eggs in lockdown. Luckily, there are a million hens around here that are broody that I could stuff some eggs under in a pinch.

Hopefully you won't get any severe stuff.
We have one coming Monday but besides that it looks like great weather. Couple other rain days but not heavy ones. I'm surprised my weather isn't going straight over to you.
I think south of me is still crappy.
