Oh they don't have a high thoughts of us here on BYC either. Very condescending if they know you get any info from here.

I've wound them up over Ameraucana a few times. Specially Ameraucana people useing EE for Ameraucana that have defects in color. But I like winding up the Ameraucana people of that too.you're just about to talk me into joining.

I almost joined a subreddit yesterday just to counter some people’s opinions and set them straight but decided against it since they DEFINITELY already have their minds made up about the subject at hand (it wasn’t chicken related) if they are in that subreddit.you're just about to talk me into joining.

Like the ones that think if you cross two varieties then they become EEs because they're not an accepted variety?I've wound them up over Ameraucana a few times. That's the ones, lol. They call their unaccepted colors projects and everyone else's EE.Like the ones that think if you cross two varieties then they become EEs because they're not an accepted variety?
It's just funny to me that you can cross two Ameraucana and the offspring are then EEs. But then you can cross those EEs and produce Ameraucana again. That's the ones, lol. They call their unaccepted colors projects and everyone else's EE.
I don't get the snobbery there. All breeds of chickens started out as "mixes" or projects at one point. The hundreds of different breeds/varieties didn't naturally evolve. lolThat's the ones, lol. They call their unaccepted colors projects and everyone else's EE.
It's one of the reasons the original Ameraucana club split.I don't get the snobbery there. All breeds of chickens started out as "mixes" or projects at one point. The hundreds of different breeds/varieties didn't naturally evolve. lol

I have read that when project birds fit the breed standard in phenotype and consistently reproduce themselves, they can be referred to as and shown as XYZ breed. So if you outcross to a different breed to bring in a certain gene or color variation, and then back cross to the original breed until it consistently reproduces itself and looks like the breed you are working with, then it can be considered that breed. As long as all the hallmark features are there and appropriate for the breed, and the birds are not a heterozygous soup pot of genes, you're good as far as I understand. It's just funny to me that you can cross two Ameraucana and the offspring are then EEs. But then you can cross those EEs and produce Ameraucana again.
