Whoa, you play the oboe?! Cool!
HuhSo many people don't know what an oboe is!
Here's a music theory question for you. I had to look up the answer when I asked my prof when I was in college.I'm also a really extreme music theory nerd haha.
I'm stumped. Here's a music theory question for you. I had to look up the answer when I asked my prof when I was in college.
Why is the Picardy Third called the "Picardy Third?"
That's funny! Yikes, he made you do a report 'cause of a question?! Old school! I like it! LolWhen a piece of music is in a minor key, but the very last chord is major, that major third is the Picardy Third.
Say a song is noodling along in c minor... final chord would normally be C, E-flat, G. But instead it is C, E-natural G. The E-natural is the Picardy Third.
WHY??? Here's the answer...
Nobody knows. Really. That's it. It's one of those things that sort of just got a name, but nobody know why.
I asked why in college, and the prof made me find out and report back to the class. And, since I'm old, this was pre-Google and pre-internet. I had to go to the library and look it up.
