The mystery hen

Well I guess I'll go with that then, I have never heard of a gold spangled hamburg before. She is very pretty, but no one here likes her because she hasn't laid an egg yet and she isn't as sweet as the others. I think she is a doll!

So what all can you tell me about the breed, I can't seem to find much anywhere. I am guessing they aren't fantastic layers but all I can find are some pictures, no real detail.

Dont despair about the egg laying part yet..I have production breeds out there that are over 22 weeks old that are not laying yet....Local people have told me its because their "time" has come when its been REALLY hot and humid...I think alot of factors play out in this...The good news is that Hamburgs are suppose to be good dependable layers..as a matter of fact, the silver spangled variety are known as The "Dutch everyday layer" And the feed conversion is suppose to be excellent. I have my first ones out in my brooder pen, they are a pair of SS that are 5 weeks old.

according to storey's they are prolific layers of small white eggs. It also says they are very active and good fliers, foragers. They are also cold hardy.
