The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

It's almost 70 F here in southern VA today - beautiful weather! I have all my 4+ week old babies out free ranging with the Swedish Flower flock. Between the rooster and my multi-talented dog, they should be pretty safe.

White Silkie with 3 Swedish Flower chicks.

The most awesome dog in the world with her babies.

So is that dog the reason for Bulldogma I have not said this before on here because people think I'm telling stories but my sons second middle name on the birth certificate is Bulldog.

Oh by the way He grew to live up to that name 6 feet 4 inches and 195 pound buy freshman year long past now but he could go threw that line like a run away freight train. (defensive lineman) They carried many a quarter back off the field because oh him. Off the field gentile as a lamb. They started putting three guys on him to stop him coach told him to just stand and hold them (which he did almost without effort) while the team mates had no one to stop them but at least the quarter back did not get hurt. I have so many 1st place trophies from bowling, wrestling, soccer, baseball, and football he was and is great.
Sorry had to be a DAD for a moment.

I LOVE THAT!!!!!!!
I've been using pack N plays since my first chicks. Susan actually came up with it. I'll give her credit. We even brought one to sell chicks out of at the sale. We didn't have anything to sell them out of, and so many people thought it was the best idea!

I want a couple of Buff Orpington's soooo badly. I was going to break down and go to A & J Poultry, less than an hour from here BUT to my surprise there will be a poultry auction at the Steuben County Fairgrounds on the 2nd Saturday in May. Just in time for my birthday! Let's see, what do I need? hmmmm.

About the splayed legs. I had a chick hatch with that, along with about everything else sticky. I took a regular band aid, cut it length ways, wrapped one sticky end around the leg, then on to itself again and did the same to the other side. I did not put the legs close together yet. Each night I changed the band aid and messaged the little ankles and put a new half on bringing the legs a little closer. The 6th night, I read to use vet wrap! It was like being slapped! it worked so much better and came off so much easier but I thought that this little guy wasn't going to heal. The next night, the vet wrap was missing and Hobbles was walking normally. Never did find the piece of vet wrap. What was so amazing was that he hobbled around but when I put that first band aid on, he stood right up. He stumbled a couple times but was able to walk normal. I'm assuming he will grow up to crow and we'll eat him

Well, at 5'0" tall I'm not as big as your son - LOL - but my DH is about his size (but weighs more).

Yup - she's the reason for my user name. I used to breed them and had 8 in the house - smallest was about 60 lbs. Brandy is our only one now - used to weigh about 75 lbs, but she's 10 years old now. I also enjoy word play, and I liked the mix of Bulldog and Dogma. Been my user name on various forums for many moons now.
