Could you move the chicken tractor to fresh grass or no? Just trying to help. I understand that some predator situations are tough.. I wish you luck. I've seen blood before and not had cocci, but that was with chicks. I didn't want to medicate without seeing any other symptoms so waited. The poops went away after I switched to dry as per Del's advice. They were gorging on the wet. Del, can you get into that again?
I have a 10 x 10 run attached to my coop. They had been free ranging before the fox attack a few weeks ago. I was thinking possibly moving them out of the run to the tractor to let the run dry out more. Would DE help dry out the run?

I have a few breeds that *pig out* as chicks with wet feed. The intestines swell and stretch and can burst little blood vessels. It comes out in the poop. I have only noticed in wet feed and not dry. They just pack that stuff in, and gorge themselves. They do not do that on dry feed. If you see blood in the poop or dark red spots, stop feeding wet for a day and see if it goes away. It should stop in a few hours. Cocci will not stop. This is for new chicks only and seems to run in heavy breeds.

If you look at this crop you can see what I mean. That crop weighs more than the chick
So I should stop feeding fermented feed for a few days?

Only if they are chicks and have a huge crop.

If I were you I would take a sample into the vet tomorrow..I am thinking you have worms or some kind of internal parasite with all that dampness.

You might want to put a bale of straw in your run to help dry it.

Okay...not chicks so that's out. I will see what the morning brings in the poop department. Thanks for the advice, delisha!!

It's a good day in the Silkie chick hatching extravaganza! Judy The Broody called her chicks out of the nest for the first time in three days to feed them scrambled eggs. I"ve been putting a small feed dish inside the nest and she has fed them out of it. But she likes to stay on the nest with them.

Miss Posey in her flower pot hatched her third chick this morning.

It has no bottom. When she is done hatching, I'll remove the pot so she and the chicks can get around to eat and drink.
