Quote: posted by Mumsy Looks like a fantail. Is that correct? What other breads did you have and do you still have pigeons? I am going to get more pigeons Pensom burmingham rollers. Going to raise them at my sons house in town since he can't have chickens

Guys,

I'm currently working on my farm website, and I have a FAQ page. Anyone want to take part? I need questions. :D

So far I have:
Are Naked Necks Chickens or Turkeys, or both?
What do you do in Winter, Do you provide heat?
How long does it take for a chicken egg to hatch?
Do you process your own chickens?
Do chickens make good pets?
Do Hens need a rooster to lay eggs?
Can Silkies Roost?

All asked on FB. Just curious if any of you have more for me :)

How can you tell if an egg is fertile?

(I know how to tell!)

Where is your website?
How much should I feed my chickens? I know.
Why are my chickens feathers falling out? This is really not happening .
What can I or what should I use for litter? I know
Can I use cedar shavings in my coop? In my opinion no.

There's a few have fun.

Thanks :)

It's under construction right now. I'll post the link when I have more put together.

I'm not saying for anyone to ask questions they don't know. Just questions they get asked a lot from family and friends and even see on here a lot form people just started out.

Here's one that was ask of me one time a while ago.
Why are your eggs different colors ours are always white? The follow up by the husband was SSSHHH don't be rude were guest.
Some inner city folks just don't know. Also had one time a farmer down the way have a guy pull up to the house to thank him for letting him deer hunt. Farmer said how did you do? Guy said I got a small one. Farmer looked in the back of the truck laying there was one of his goats.
True story.

My son(16) is starting to show real interest in chickens. After I got my wife her Silkies at the beginning of Dec for an early Christmas present, my son asked if he could name the two chicks hatched by my broody(if you mane them, they are yours on our little farm). I told him he could. Well after a week one chick got taken by a small hawk, then the next week momma got taken by a large hawk. So now the remaining orphan chick is in the brooder with my wife's Silkies. The other day my son asks if he can show his rooster(yes I know it is a rooster, sexable by barring gene). I told him no because he is a barnyard mix(Orp/Rock). So I think in the spring I may have to buy him a show chicken for his birthday.

That's really cool! Do you have an active 4H chapter near you or will you show the chicken(s) as a family at open poultry shows and fairs? It's great when kids get interested!

I'm happy to share them here. It is a testament to how friendly and welcoming this thread is. I would not share pictures so private unless I thought they would be enjoyed. I do enjoy when you all share pictures of your coops, private places, and flocks. It is like getting postcards from around the country from dear pen pals. Do people still have pen pals? Well...This thread is special like that.

I think the internet is the new means of having pen pals. I have so many fantastic friends who I have never met in person and never would have met had it not been for the internet. And asking questions out here - way better than Google! LOL.

Aoxa,
My city folk co-workers believe all eggs are white and all chicks are yellow! They were quite surprised when I showed pictures of my chicks of many colors. And when I brought in eggs with blue and green ones, they were very wide eyed!

Pigeonguy,
When I lived in KY, many animals other than deer were killed during deer season. We had to leave the horses locked up too.

I have a rich aunt that always was a city girl she never saw brown eggs till a few weeks ago when she came up to visit. I showed her all different shapes and colors of the eggs and she just couldnt beleive it. I then showed her some pics of our chickens and one of the pics was one of my polish rooster and she was wow that is pretty did that chicken lay these eggs. I then had to explain to her roosters dont lay eggs she was like why dont they i said they are males and she still didnt understand she thought all chickens lay eggs. I then said again Its a male do males have babies. She was like ummm no. I was like OK THEN. LOL I took two dozen eggs to show her one dozen was mostly silkie eggs and she wanted to buy them off me. She gets in her purse and puts money in my hand I looked down and there was $30. I said I dont need this much and she said just take it. I said thanks but with a shocked face. lol The next morning she ate some of the eggs and said those were the best tasting eggs she ever had. I told her that thats because they are FRESH and NOT PUMPED FULL OF CHEMICALS AND THEY ARE FREE RANGED NOT JUST COOPED UP ALL DAY IN A LITTLE CAGE.
