This is Pickles after a little foraging. I'm always amazed how white the white silkies manage to stay.... Hours later she was bright white again. How do they do it?!!!

How exciting !!! You are very blessed your husband is so handy....I love how your coops are born from fairy tales & stories........though it might be a tight fit in that little one you are using as your model even for your new silkies

is it going to have pumpkins on the sides as well? lol

Thank you and HAH! My hubby works very hard all week so when he lends me his time for chicken and garden projects I am very very happy. Happy wife, happy family as the saying goes.

Since this chick house will have just an open floor plan inside like my old original chick house, I wanted to get creative with the exterior. I love folly's in the garden. Something that is used for one thing but looks like something else. I used to be an actress at historical reenactments and have a lot of set props. They will all be used in this chick house.

Here is another one of my models I will borrow ideas from.

I already have a wooden plank door and a pop out dormer. When making models or set props, I use techniques that are faux. Wattle and daub look a likes and painting techniques that fool the eye. The chick house will be surrounded with garden plantings that are already established. Pop doors are a given but I want working shutters on windows and storage areas built in. Faux timbers for roof support would be neat. And lighting with outlets too. Got to get this whipped out in a couple weeks!

Omg itis a HAWK showdown in my yard today!!! There are even crowd around but the hawk keeps coming back and landing on a wire 5-8 feet from my head!! And the chickens..... I've waved my arms thrown rocks and I swear the hawk is just laughing at me saying "is that all you've got?" It flew into some large trees 50 feet away and just below it on another branch was a crow!!! I got a pretty good look at it this time. 2 dark stripes on the underside of its tail ... A lighter chest and well stripes as it flew hahaha..... Isn't that helpful?? I took a picture while it was perched 40 feet away but not sure you can see anything. Oooh it just did another fly over!!! Ugh.....

Yeah those all are further away from me than Maine! I wonder if I could go over the border to get some.... It's 5 hours to Maine. 3 hours to Halifax and 14 hours to the border of Ontario.

Thanks for trying. Sad how hard it is to find good quality feed here. We have two local feed mills. One I refuse to use because I just hate their service, and the other does sell organic grains, but the prices are outrageous.

Where are you at? Looking up hawk identification images on google may narrow it down based on your area.

I'd guess Cooper Hawk. They are very common, and have stripes on their tails and a light chest.
